Pees' contract expires, choses not to return; Breer: had prostate cancer last summer

Re: SMY: Dean Pees fired (Reiss: expired con); NFP: Patricia "widely expected" to rep

How do you know he would be here if he wanted to stay?
Think you've misunderstood my post. I'm saying if BB wanted Pees to stay he would still be here. This happens all the time in sport, politics and life. Somebody is not wanted and it's painted up as a mutual parting of the ways when it's clear it's nothing of the sort. End of the day it's a good end result for the Patriots.

Re: Dean Pees FINALLY Fired

Bill Belichick has oe of the greatest track records in the history of the NFL as a tremendously conservative coach. (He is only aggressive when he gets into position to be) BB's philosophy has always been to defend the entire field, not give up the big play, and be effective vs the run (which is still criticially important in a pass happy league because you stay out of pass/run neutral situations.)
EVERY fan prefers an aggressive defense, but I'll side with BBs track record.
How many teams with aggressive defenses can you name who have won SBs? There are not many.

08/09 - Steelers
07/08 - Giants
05/06 - Steelers
00/01 - Ravens

Eagles were a runner up to the Pats in 04/05 and have consistently been to the NFC Championship game over the last decade. Arizona has been an attacking defense for the last 2 years and they were a runner up last year.

3 out of the last 4 SB Winners have had an aggressive defense IMO. Steelers, Giants, Steelers. Colts being the exception. Is it a coincidence that last year the final 4 teams were the Steelers, Ravens, Eagles, and Cardinals? All 4 of those teams can be considered aggressive defenses. BB's conservative defense hasn't won anything since the 04/05 season. Yes 07 was a great year, but almost winning doesn't count in the record books.

Re: SMY: Dean Pees fired (Reiss: expired con); NFP: Patricia "widely expected" to rep

Not sure how to react to this. Clearly, Pees wasn't getting the job done. However where does this leave our coaching infrastructure? It's in an even bigger mess now unless they have somebody in mind to bring in. And what about the OC situation who's going to help there? Too bad nobody the caliber of Charlie Weis or Romeo Crennel weren't available anytime recently

I think BB already knows his alternatives

Re: Pees' contract expires, choses not to return; Breer: had prostate cancer last sum

Holley just reported on CSNNE Sports Tonight that Albert Breer has knowledge that Pees had prostate cancer last summer, had surgery, and is now cancer-free.

Re: Pees' contract expires, choses not to return; Breer: had prostate cancer last sum

Pees is not happy about SMY's report. Both Ian Rapoport and Tom Curran tweeted that they have spoken to Pees about it.

Re: Pees' contract expires, choses not to return; Breer: had prostate cancer last sum

Here is the link to Breer's report about the cancer. He also says Pees is pondering retirement:

Pees explains decision - Extra Points - Boston.com

Pees, 60, was diagnosed with prostate cancer and underwent surgery over the summer. Soon thereafter, he had a blood clot in his leg. He’s now cancer-free, but had bronchial spasms – which have all the symptoms of a heart attack – cause a scare in the coaches’ booth during the regular-season finale in Houston, and he was hospitalized there.

The story sure changed along the way! He wasn't fired, he chose not to renew, maybe because he had been ill (glad to read he's been cancer-free since!). Too bad the media got it mixed up at first. We'll never know what was actually said but best wishes to him!

Will New England interview Al Groh as well?

Who knows...

Re: Pees' contract expires, choses not to return; Breer: had prostate cancer last sum

If Patricia does get promoted, the Pats will need a LBs coach.

...Bruschi?

I'd love Bruschi or Seau.

Re: Pees' contract expires, choses not to return; Breer: had prostate cancer last sum

I liked Pees. Given the amount of first and second year players, the absence of veteran leadership, along with a non-existent pass rush, it must of been a difficult season to co-ordinate this defense.

And I truly hope Pepper remains.

Re: Pees' contract expires, choses not to return; Breer: had prostate cancer last sum

I don't understand why we emphasize on how Pees left too much. The fact that he is gone is important and the rest is IRRELEVANT.

Here are some qualifications for our next DC:

1-Good ability to adjust our opponent's offense during the game.
2- Knowing what he needs to have in order to have a kickarse D. A TOP 3 D in the league.
3- Good scheme and plan for games.

Re: new DC - my money is on Patricia, not Pepper. Belichick loves him; termed very smart but not great teacher by those I've talked to

Somebody grab BB by the throat and tell him to cut the crap. We have a young defense, we need someone in here with experience to help develop these kids. I will not be happy if this guy gets the job.

wont happen. BB feels hiring exp guy will be a 1/2 yr thing and then will find HC jobs elsewhere.

How long did McDaniels hang around after he became the OC? He can negotiate some kind of commitment from the candidate, can't he? It would also help if Bob Kraft opened his wallet and made it worth it for the guy to hang around.

This guy started coaching D in 2006 as LB's coach, before that was offensive coach.

2001 he was hired into QC fetching coffee and getting Ernie Adams stool softner from Rite Aid.
