I hate this secondary at times, it makes me sick to my stomach when an opposing team reaches our end zone with such ease, thank goodness with a have a good def line and Mayo otherwise we'd suck at the running game too.

Our passing defense can suck A$ most of the time. I still dont understand the logic of getting rid of Hobbs last year, when he was clearly our best CB and return guy, 2 areas we really suck at.

And please draft a punter already, as good as Hanson was last year, he's really sucked it this year.

This thread is awesome. No way I could of gave it anything lower than a 1 star, Bravo!

+1

Maybe in round 7?

Re: We need CB's, a punter and a returner for next year.

im not saying anything except if you want a CB and a returner, Javier Arenas is your guy.

Right, because Ellis Hobbs was just that damn good. When you say "he was clearly our best CB," it's like saying lethal injection is clearly the best way to be executed.

Yeah, what do you want the Pats to do? Get rid of Wilhite? Butler? Bodden (FA)? Springs? Wheatley?

A returner? They drafted the NCAA career leader in return yards (Tate).

How about they address the most pressing need, pass rush.

Our CB's are fine and will get better with time. The secondary looks like trash because our pass rush is practicially non-existant.

I hope the Pats draft C.J. Spiller who would fill the need of a kick/punt returner. (Oh, and give us a potential play making RB, something imo we desperatly need. )

Hanson has been good?

I didn't notice ... but he has a great pair of hands ... Ghost loves him long time.

I agree about the pass rush. This team won a Super Bowl with a patch work secondary because the front seven were great at keeping opposing QBs off their guard.

CJ Spiller in Round 1...

Who's we? What position do you play? You guys get wifi on the plane? Is Welker gonna be ok?

Gotta disagree.. on all 3 counts..

Here is Info on Hanson:
Punts - They have the 3rd fewest punts in the league with 53. They've had 7 punts OOBs and 6 punts downed. They've had 16 punts inside the 20 (30%) and 16 punts that resulted in fair catches. They've had 19 of 53 punts returned ( 35.8%) for 149 yards (7.84 YPR). They've also not allowed a punt return for TD. The Ravens have punted 68 times and the Steelers have punted 70 times. The Ravens have had 7 punts go OOBs and 9 punts downed. The Steelers have had 2 punts downed and 15 go OOB. The Ravens have had 25 Punts go inside the 20 (29.4%) while the Steelers have had 25 (35.7%). The Ravens have had 36 returns (52.9%) for 280 yards ( 7.78 YPR) and the Steelers have had 32 returns (45.7%) for 322 yards (10 YPR).

(Please not that the Steeler and Ravens comparison were used in another thread when a person claimed that those two teams didn't draft special teamers, yet had good special teams)

As for a Kick returner, I think the Pats need better blocking on the kick return unit... Too many times I see 5-7 opposing players getting through the initial front 7 blockers and swarming the Pats returner. And it hasn't mattered who was back there returning kicks.

As for Corner, I think that developing the pass rush amongst the front 7 is a bigger issue than the corners. When the Pats were successful, they had average to good corners and could rush the Passer from any of the 4 LBer spots. They haven't been able to do that the last 3 years.. Hopefully a fully recovered McKenzie, the continued development of Butler, Wheatley, and Wilhite and the re-signing of Bodden will help the Pats get better.

I think the Patriots are thinking Dez Bryant in round 1 at this point, after today.

Of all the needs the team has, you probably listed the 3 that are least important. Did you do that on purpose?

First of all don't expect much unless there is a labor deal. The Krafts are to close to this and have already said they are not giving out long term deals until they have economic certainty. So Tom Brady could go into his final year. The FA list is pathetic, I mean some of these guys should have been locked up.

Gostkowski, Mankins, Wilfolk, Neal, Bodden, Jarvis Green, Faulk.

Their talent is so thin they can't really afford to lose any of them. But they probably won't sign any of them. They might franchise Wilfolk.

They better offer Ski some real money or he'll be a Cowboy or Texan on day 1. The "genius" will think he can just draft another K.

They also won't delve into FA that much. They should go after a wide out.

But the problems on this team are 3rd Wide out, No pass rush so that could be 1 player it could be 3, poor coverage and they could use more help on the o-line.

They need another good draft. Let's face it, 2010 is waste. Welker's injury won't help. Maybe in 2011 the Krafts will realize they have been cheaping out to long and that will wise them up. I wrote about this a month ago in my well-viewed bleacher article. It's over boys. We're back to the Pete Carroll days. This is no longer an elite franchise.

This is pretty hilarious. 2010 is a write off! We're doomed! Back to the Pete Carroll years!! Kraft is cheap! Belichick is washed up! LOL.

Your statement about the talent be thin is bogus and too stereotypical. The Pats would still have a ton of talent if they lost those guys.

Also, with Gost and Mankins being RFA, they aren't going anywhere. Just like Wilfork isn't.

They better offer Ski some real money or he'll be a Cowboy or Texan on day 1. The "genius" will think he can just draft another K.

If the Cowboys or Texans are willing to pony up a 1st or a 1st and 3rd round pick for Gost, then BB would probably accept that deal. And it would be a steal for the Pats.

How much the Pats are players in Free Agency will depend on where they finish this year because that determines whether they can just sign their own and replace as they lose or if they can go out and court other Free agents.. (Note, this doesn't include "street free agents - players who were cut)

They Pats are in the process of "rebuilding" their defense, they just won their Division for the 7th time in 9 years, and you think that they aren't an elite franchise..

I remember when you wrote that. You posted the link on here and you got lambasted by many people. Including myself.. You probably don't remember that or are just choosing to forget it because you were pretty embarrassing.

Yeah, McMurtry take off your feety pajamas.

They are not an elite team. They're not doomed, but they're not elite. They have a terrible defense and are not going to turn it around in one year. They are getting old on offense including the QB who has now torn his ACL, MCL, broke his finger and ribs in the last two season. He's not a kid any more and this oline better get some guards to protect him.

They've had about 3 good picks in their last 3 drafts so while I think they are a playoff team next year, they are not a dominant team. They proved that the last two seasons.

The Jets right now have a top 5 defense with the best corner I've seen in years, a great o-line. If Sanchez can develop, they are your AFC East champs. And then their is Miami with a good young QB as well, and a young up and coming o line and d line. Plus Parcells is a great picker of groceries. Just look at the team he built here. This team can't show up next and expect the AFC East is there's. That's why 2007 will always hurt. Dynasties don't last forever.

See you Patriot suck ups think this team is still playing for the Super Bowl. They're not. They're a marginal playoff team, the intelligent fans realize that, the suckers like you, wear feety pajamas.

The big question is whether this team will continue to morph into the Harry Sinden Bruins or go back to spending money for top talent.

And if I am Tom Brady I say, I want to be the highest paid QB and if you don't want to pay me there are 10 other teams that will. I gave up money for you and you let the core of this team walk away.

Geddie - No offense, but I have more football intelligence in my pinkie than you do in your entire body. You were torn apart when you posted your blathering rant previously by many others and I tore you apart in the other thread when you decided to try and call me a mental midget. You've show you offer nothing that I couldn't get from Albert Breer or Mike Reiss.

Oh Geddie, you're barkin up a tree you can't see the top of sweetheart. I was raised not to pick on handicapped people, but you are truly testing me.
