I think everyone including thomas figured going into this season that short of an all-pro season, that he will likely be cut after this season. The problem with thsi scenario is that even after this season, the Pats still owe him 8M guaranteed, so if you knew you were a dead man, would you take crap from your boss knowing you are set anyway?
Given the situation, coaching him up would have put the pats in the best situation given who else they have....not coaching him down.
If there is any message being portrayed now, it is that 'we are dysfunctional'.
yes it has been clear for some time that it was time for the Pats and AD to part ways, but why make things worse than they needed to be?
