SF: BB thinks all the time

Re: SF: BB thinks all the time.

Apparently he had a brain siezure after the 4th down play. If he was still thinking he would have allowed the Colts to score quickly. This would have given the Pats the ball back with over one and a half minutes for Brady to get the team into field goal range.

So true, only problem is WHAT IS HE THINKIN SOMETIMES?! lol Don't get me wrong his record & accomplishments speak for itself He has BIGGEST B _ _ Ls of any coach BUT you have to admit there are times you say MAN I'm glad we picked up that 4th down or An intentional safety giving 2 pts kickin off getting a stop from our D win a game in Denver few yrs back. Live & Die by Bill. With his passion I wouldn't bet against him.

Great stuff. Thanks. Have a look at the play underneath the article- it really tickled me.

OTOH there are many who believe that getting 2 yards was achievable... if we were given the proper spot, all those fence sitters would be itching their hemmorhoids...

Re: SF: BB thinks all the time.

A companion piece from the same author that gets to the root of how most arguments here become polarized. I wanted to strangle Bill at the time, but took a step back, slept on it, read and heard the various informed and uninformed opinions and data, evaluated various expert opinions as well as devalued baseless kneejerk opinions in context and came to the realization he was probably right to make that call exactly as it was made (including playcalling) once I re-considered the existing data and evidence at hand.

I guess that is in line with my own subconscious lifelong bias against people who equate changing or evolving opinion based on emerging facts and data as flip flopping. To me those who are insistent on staying an increasingly indefensible conventional wisdom course in the face of mounting evidence to the contrary are a easier to dismiss because they are clearly myopic or entrenched or agenda driven, and those are silly if not stupid ways to go through life IMHO. I often wonder whether they cannot think critically or merely fear to because their ego has become so emotionally invested in a core belief or position the mere concept of a viable alternative terrifies them.

Don't get me wrong, I generally admire people who have the courage of their convictions. I simply admire them more when despite them they exhibit a capacity to remain open to the possibility there are viable alternatives and self assured enough to routinely probe and analyze as well as selectively incorporate them into that conviction conversely feeling threatened. That's kind of the evolution of Bill in a nutshell, I guess, and it's why he's achieved the level of success here most of his peers and critics can only dream of. And often end up commentating jealously or irrationally on from the safety of a media pulpit because the mere existence of that very level of success threatens them on some level. And that's why left to make a choice, IBBIT for me remains a more enlightened approach to the understanding the game and this team than desperately nit picking his decisions to prove he's not always right - as if anyone is.

There is no shame in allowing BB to do your football thinking for you. Leave your own ego at the door and embrace that and you are free to just sit back and learn. If you refuse to it says more about your own ego than Bill's... That is a simple concept this team and organization chose/learned to embrace a long time ago, that has benefitted them and us to the tune of model franchise, 3 ring dynasty and team of the decade status. So we don't always win or win it all...who the hell does or does it better???

And if Bill was still thinking after the bad spot he wouldn't have given up and would have let the Colts score quickly so the Pats could get the ball back.

Re: SF: BB thinks all the time.

In general, you still have an alright chance of stopping the offense from scoring from the 30. Granted, this was Peyton in warrior mode, but still.

As he himself said this week, no he wouldn't because you never voluntarily "give up" the lead. What he did on the intentional safety was unconventional, but he was not giving up the lead. He was trading two insignificant points for a shot at better field position while retaining a chance to win the game on one possession.

Bull, he also said he planned during the week that he would go on 4th down if the game were on the line. If he planned on it why was there such confusion, Bill constantly lies.

Am I the only one who feels like he gives up when stuff doesn't work out? Think back to the superbowl (as painful as it may be) After the Tyree fluke catch... He calls an all out blitz? With Hobbs covering Burress? After that 4 Hail Mary's when you have one of the best passing games of all time, and the best receiving crew in the NFL and 30 seconds? This game felt the same way. Crazier things have happened than one of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game throwing a long miracle to win the game.. Honestly he hits Welker in the middle of the field what was that going to accomplish? I love Belichick and never question his decisions hardly but can someone give me a reason for this? Every time we get killed by a play (4th and 2 bad spot) It's like he loses his play calling mojo.. just a thought no disrespect to the 5 time SB coach who brought us our only championships..

The announcers knew we got set back 6 yards, but apparently the Patriots didn't.

It's nice to bask in a mythology of perpetual perfection, but this coaching staff needs to bear down for 60 minutes. Just because others are worse doesn't mean you can rest on laurels.
