Miami Dolphins: Brady, Moss lead New England Patriots past Dolphins -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com
Their conversation was brief but memorable.

It came near the end of Sunday's 27-17 loss to the New England Patriots, a loss that turned on a breakdown by Dolphins rookie cornerback Vontae Davis as he attempted to single cover one of the greatest receivers in NFL history.

The 71-yard touchdown that resulted from that simple crossing pattern should have surprised no one who has watched Tom Brady and Randy Moss these past three seasons or who has watched Moss pile up 140 touchdowns (tied for second all-time) and nearly 14,000 yards (seventh) in his controversial career.

The kindness Moss (six catches for 147 yards) later showed toward his inexperienced victim was a different story.

As the Patriots (6-2, 2-1 in the AFC East) ran out the clock and opened up a three-game lead on the defending division champions (3-5, 3-1), Moss turned to the wide-eyed kid making his second career pro start and gave the first-round draft pick a meaningful endorsement.

"I'm heading out of this league, and you're coming in," Moss, the 12th-year man, told Davis. "You're going to be a good player. Keep working."

Randy's NFL mortality is a painful subject. It seems like only yesterday he was a 20-year-old kid breaking into the league and the way he plays you sometimes forget he's 32.

This was a nice story and says a lot about Moss' character. However I couldn't help notice the keening whine of the writer/Davis claiming that Moss pushed off on his one handed grab. I am so TIRED of every team we play claim that they were screwed by the refs in some fashion. I could understand him complaining about some push off, if he/writer only ADMITTED to holding Moss and the numerous "illegal contacts" that went uncalled all game. It seems the NFL has devolved into the CBL The CRY BABY LEAGUE.

Joey Porter complains about the Pats getting calls, yet he spent the ENTIRE game begging calls from the officials....INSTEAD of making Tackles.

I'm not going to make any prognostications (i.e., Moss might do this, Moss might do that), but you have to admit the basic truth of that statement: he's definitely closer to the end of his career than the beginning.

And, knowing what I know now: imagine if the Pats had gotten Moss and Welker back in 2004 or 2005. . . .

You may comfort yourself with the thought that we have two first round picks in '11 which is reportedly one of the better WR drafts coming out in some time.

Classy thing to say, from a classy guy...............

Beyond that, I don't want to talk about the other subject in this thread. SOMEONE PLEASE LOCK IT, so we can blissfully enjoy whatever time we have left.

Moss is a G

Did you see Moss run up to the Ghost & hug him after he kicked through the endzone on his second consecutive kickoff (after a penalty) to prevent any return by Ginn? Then he handed his TD ball to a little kid in the stands. It's amazing what getting in with a the right team can do for ya! Even though he's getting old, he's good to go this year and I'm glad we got him (and yes, I was one of the people who said BB would never trade for him).

It is what it is. Sometimes being reminded of the mortality of the game makes it all the more sweeter to enjoy, and not take it for granted.

I have been around since the **** MacPherson days, and I am extremly grateful on two counts, one that we've won 3 out of 5 superbowls, and two, having the awareness to understand how rarely these things happen, and thereby enjoying it all the more.

Sean Smith was pretty darn good as well

Parcells and Sparano should have themselves quite an all-pro secondary within the next few years, they will be tough to throw against.

I hope you're right, well I think you're right.

Being a dolphins fan I must say it is getting quite tiresome watching welker and Moss run routes with such ease when all I see from my team is players dropping the ball.

I must admit Moss has turned into one class act of a player. He's grown up quite well.

i agree, lol, i didnt see any push off, and even if there was, davis had no way of getting to the ball....not unless he goes through moss...perfect ball, perfect grap

NO cb could have defended it

Moss stiff armed him in the face mask as he broke downfield with the ball...THAT must be what he was complaining about...and that stiff arm DID amount to a pushofff of about two yards which allowed Moss to easily score....tough if you're a rookie CB....moral being, if you don't want to get torched, don't let the WR stiff arm your face....jeez

Your Dolphins team is one breakaway threat at WR away from becoming a complete team.

Although Henne has much to prove as well,I think Pennington will not return next season.

i got kinda bummed out reading this thread. Kind of sad to know the truth.

This reminded me of what Kobe Bryant said Belichick told him near the Lakers bench during the 4th quarter of Game 6 of the 2008 NBA finals." Keep working, losses like this happen, you're a great player and will be back."

As a kid, I remember watching the '85 superbowl, because I wanted to understand what the buzz was about, because after we beat Cincinnati, the fans tore down the goalpost and tried to carry it south on Route 1. They nearly got electrocuted when they tried to pass it under the power lines. That made the front page around here and was just about the only thing anyone talked about for quite a few days- in fact, the older the story got, the more fans you heard claim they were part of that famous procession.

But I tuned out, big time, in '90. '91 was the first time I can recall that I started getting excited about the Pats.. I remember how MacPherson used to charge the field with a rolled up paper in his fist.. that sob was always upbeat, no matter what. We got some major upsets over playoff teams, and you could just tell that the Franchise was turning around, and of course along comes Parcells.

But more than anything, I hated the Carroll years, he was such an unimaginative coach.. our offense was so one-dimensional, and don't get me started on Grier. I knew we were in trouble right away when they asked Carroll what he would rather be doing and he answered "coaching playground football" or something to that effect.

EDIT: I think there are some folks on here that remember the Fairbanks-Erhart days. Perhaps even the Boston Patriots.. those would be the real old timers.
