These ratios look A LOT more similar to the ratios we saw from 2001-2004. Glad to see the shot gun happy offense is going away, which creates more hits on Brady and where he's also less effective right now for multiple reasons.

Good to see that we are primarily using 2 or 3 tight ends on most plays, since we have a bruising running attack and physical O-line, and since the offense is more effective now with Brady under center, where they can call traps, screens, play action, and fakes, and where the defense has to defend against the possibility of the run.

I like the change, too, but it's premature to say the shotgun is going away. This is one game against a team that has a hard time against the run. Hopefully, we won't go back to shotgun dominance unless we face a weak pass defense. I'd rather keep the defense guessing than teeing off on TB all day.

I never liked the shot gun happy offense. Too predictable. Too vulnerable to the pass rush. Too boring.

Give me play action, screens, draws, and misdirection mixed in with a power running attack. The shotgun has its place, but not as a base offense.

lol, you folks act like one game makes a season. I doubt we've seen the end of the shot gun. Wether it remains our base or not I have no idea. There are times when certain teams handle certain things better. What worked against Atlanta might not work against other opponents. If we face the Jets, or any blitzing team like the Ravens for example, the shot gun would be perfect to spread them out, assuming the OL can keep Brady standing long enough. Maybe this could mean more balance though?

Before we make any claims of anything going away, we should see what they do next week or the week after. The Pats are an opponent specific system. Just because one scheme works with one team doesn't mean they will do it with another one.

Personally, I think until O'Brien figures out how to call plays better, he shouldn't overrely on the shotgun. It worked for McDaniels because he knew the right times to call a draw and catch the defenses off guard. O'Brien hasn't been as intune yet.
