Are Law-Firm and McGowan playing their way onto this team?

I think the fact that BJGE is getting knocked for the drop last night is a little extreme. A few years ago Faulk had quite the reputation for dropping the ball and half this board SCREAMED for his head....now he is the consummate 3rd down guy. But I still think if the right offer came down the pike we would trade BJGE in a heartbeat.

I like Reckedtrek's proposition; PUP and see what happens.

Off base in comparing Faulk and BJGE. Faulk was a 2nd round pick and talented to boot. He had ball-security issues which BB corrected in 2000/2001

BJGE is a JAG who is fighting for a roster spot. He needs to be perfect. He wasn't. It's a legitimate data point in assessing his potential in making the club.

I wasn't comparing talent, I was comparing the reactions. One fumble does not an honest assessment make.

Hey, I am not saying we should keep BJGE just because he runs well against scrubs. I am just taking a view that in the long run we may have a need for this kid that will certainly not be there down the road.

On that thought, can anyone with some know how project who might be available come week 8 if we have a need?

You guys got to remember this is the BEST PASSING team in the NFL. The RBs will probably not get a whole lot of carries.

This is why I think this type of team should have 4 RBs MAX. 3 would be good.

One of the (many) keys to having a great passing game is making the opposition account for your ground game. And what do you then suggest we do when it hits December (and hopefully Jan) and the wind is whipping and it's 5* outside? Just chuck it anyway?

The question isn't if you would rather have BJGE than whoever is out there in week 8. You'd always take the guy who knows your system. You can say that for pretty much every bubble player at every position.

The question is do you want to carry him as your 5th RB just in case 3 of your RBs all are down at the same time? You will have to short yourself at another spot to do it. I personally don't think that is worth doing.

With 14 team scouts in attendance last night I am thinking BJGE is being showcased and a trade is imminent. The phone may already be ringing.

On the other hand, with Faulk, Morris and Taylor being 33, 32, and 33 respectively I would not be surprised to see something drastic occur to keep the youth infusion. We have an older running back contingent and Maroney, to this day, still seems to carry a question mark.

The Magic 8 ball says "Ask again later".[/QUOTE

with this being maroneys last year of contract, im hoping he gets traded because I dont think the PATS will resign him next year. Maroney has had a number of years to prove himself and hasnt done so. Every time i see maroney run I tend to think its the o-line thats not opening the holes for him. then i see law firm run and hes tearing it up. TRADE MARONEY

I'm still waiting for BJ to not find the whole and exploit it once.

You didn't see that once last night? He had 3 short carry-like catches for a total of 6 yards, and 10 carries for 44 yards with a long of 17 -- meaning that on the other 9 carries he averaged 3.0 ypc. Is that really finding and exploiting the hole every time?

I'm not trying to bash Green-Ellis, I just think he's being seriously overvalued.

BJGE is consistently effective, runs hard and is young and sturdy in a group of older players at a high-risk position. I think he gets serious consideration for a spot. BM is an effective and consistent tackler with good position and angles. Both could help.

Respectfully disagree. This O will hit 1000 plays from LoS. Figure 500+ running plays in 2009.

Before Morris got hurt, In 2007 they had 37, 32, 38, 34, 32 running plays for each game. That projects to 553 rushes p/g over a 16 game sched.

This O passes to score, runs to win.

Hey! Thats not my quote!

I don't want Maroney traded....I want Dillon to call him up and take him on some Zen RB retreat so he finds the power within.

I know that it wasn't your quote, and my apologies. The new poster screwed up the quote function when he cited you, and I forgot to fix it before posting.

I've since fixed the quotes.

Of course it does! If a player is an established veteran RB or has been productive in his first 2 seasons with a decent amount of potential, he can afford to put the ball on the ground once has less of a chance in getting cut (barring any other circumstances at play such as cap hit, etc.). BJGE has some talent and maybe some trade-ability. But with the depth at RB and his fumble factoring into the equation, his uphill climb to make the roster got a lot steeper.

IMO w/ 4 RBs more talented than he on the roster, he doesn't have that luxury to put the ball on the ground and BB giving the benefit of the doubt.

Hell, what ever works im all for it.. However since maroneys contract is up next year and i heard a rumor that faulk plans on retiring after this year I think the 4 draft picks we have in the first 2 rounds of 2010 draft will go for at least 1 running back

On my roster, I'm taking Smith off and putting McGowan on. BJGE was always on there. He even looks better then last year (granted against backups). I loved how the announcers mentioned that Maroney should take a few lessons from BJGE. Maroney's turning out to be the next Chad Jackson imo (yes, I said it!)

Actually, BJGE is not likely to make the 53, since it's very unlikely they'll keep 5 RB's.

Sorry.

Agreed, he'll make the "Keep your phone on, stay in shape and stay at your playing weight if you know what is good for you. You'll get a good reference from us if 30 of the other 31 teams call us (Screw the Jets) but we'll probably call you in a month or two" list

I'd say yes McG, no BJGE... definately no offense to LawFirm - I think he plays hard - just a numebrs game VS McGowan's experience/usage on ST.

Keep him. If he leaves as a FA next year that allows the Pats to sign another team's FA in compensation.

Bert Breers said the same thing on 98.5 yesterday. He called BJGE a JAG and there are 100 guys available on street just like him during the season and that people have fallen in love with this guy based on one game and play against guys who will be out of the NFL by the second weeks of September.

One game?

BJGE played last year, had a 100 yard game in INDY! Put in 5 TD's along the way. The pathetic argument is that those games came against weaker teams, but you cannot have a 100 yard game in the NFL against Indy and be JAG.

Looks like radio guys have short memories.
