It's very early in camp but KOC hasn't exactly wowed 'em early on from what I've read. This is likely bad news for Gutz as either they are a little squeemish about KOC and want to make sure they have someone sensible behind him or Gutz didn't make the most of his gift full season reprieve.

Also might be a hint that Hoyer is competing for the PS slot only as they feel they need some kind of experience behind KOC. One way or another this smacks of a little disappointment or lighting a fire. Otherwise Cleo could have been in here in April getting into the playbook.

Only if the Patriots had given a pick to JAX; he was under contract to them until mid-June.

OK then...since mid June. If they felt they needed someone then I'd have imagined they'd have had him in before now just to get a leg up on the terminology. Something has changed even if almost imperceptively. When was the last time we had 5 QB's in camp?

Who knows what that is, though? For all we know, it could be that Gutierrez and/or Hoyer aren't progressing as much as we'd like, or perhaps the coaches saw something in Lemon they didn't see before.

If the Patriots sign Lemon, they won't have 5 quarterbacks in camp

very long. They might cut both Hoyer and Gutierrez.

They already waived Malone, so they don't need to cut anyone.

In any case, it makes the most sense to carry three on the roster (since the NFL gives teams an incentive to do so), and, if they can afford it, a fourth on the PS.

Cleo Lemon is a quarterback with a very high amount of talent who has been graced with unfortunate situations in the time he's been given to start. He's a Jim Miller type backup with far more upside. This is a great signing.
