If you couldn’t work out a contract with the Red Sox before free agency comes up and you eventually become a free agent, is the Bronx ever a possibility?

Papelbon
Oh, of course.

I mean, I think if we can’t come to an agreement on terms here in a Red Sox uniform, I mean, I think that’s pretty much the writing on the wall. If they can’t come to terms with you they’re letting you know that, ‘Hey you know what? We can go somewhere else.’ And I think it’s the same way on the other side, ‘Hey if ya’ll can’t come to an agreement with me then I can go somewhere else.’ Not only in the Bronx, but anywhere.

Ew, disgusting.

"Open" to the idea? I thought going to the Yankees in 2011 "WAS" the idea; Mo will retire and Papelbon will sign on there for raftloads of dough (because he said flat out he's not taking a home town discount to stay here like others have in his opinion).

Mark it in pen, he'll be the Yankees closer in 2011.

We've already got his replacement waiting in the wings, so no worries, have a great career and thanks for the memories.

Now the Yankees will have two horses asses doing the fist pump when they strike out a guy in a game when down 10-0, can't wait................

Papelbon: I don't want to play for Yankees - Extra Bases - Red Sox blog

I don't want to go (expletive) play for the Yankees. I've been on a team for the past five years that's been in first place more than any other (expletive) team otherwise. Why would I want to leave?

Sometimes in these quotes they only see what they want to see.

[The Red Sox] don't owe me nothing, this team doesn't need me. I need the Red Sox more than the Red Sox need me.

For me, I want to go to a place where I'm happy. For me, the only thing that's important is that, A, it's like a family and B, I have manager and a GM that's going to protect me, and I know that here.

apparently hes changed his mind. wtf is he doing talking about a contract 2 years before its up anyway. I'm so sick of this guys act off the field. he had to do damage control in the club house because of his comments according to sports tonight crew. f him shut the f up and pitch. and doulbe g is right hes as good as gone to ny. guaranteed.

I like what he does for the team but really I can't stand the prick.
Papelbon talks a lot of crap ... he needs to STFU and just pitch.

And stop turning his saves into high wire acts, we don't need a heart attack closer..........

I love paps but he does need to shut up, hes like curt schilling to me.. At the same time its been 4 years already and thats the mark for closers being found out and its startin to look like paps is about to hit that wall where they found him out, he puts 2 men on before getting an out most of the time.. If he wants to leave cuz hes money hungry then let him! Daniel Bard is will be ready to close next year anyways!

Its a biz plain and simple and the Sox have shown they will walk away from anyone for money issues. Paps talks smack but is not an idiot, he doesnt pump his fist when he is down 10-0 as someone stated he only does it when he closing or in a tight spot. He knows exactly what this is and he is sending a message that hey keep me here or i will be your worst nightmare. I havent given a crap what the yanks have done FA wise in a long time but he would hurt not for the rivalry but because he is the best closer in the league. For all those saying "Heart attack closer" do yourselves a favor and watch a game other than the sox somtime. There are much worse out there on every team. Even Nathan has 4 blown saves this year so stop looking through blinders and notice he is the elite and he knows it

Yeah, ok then; read what Boston Beaner wrote, he is accurate when it comes to Papelbon. Teams have figured him out, when was the last time he had a clean innning, you can't blow a fastball by major league hitters when they are sitting on it.

Mo is still an elite closer (THE greatest of all time by far) because he has an fastball and a cutter that saws off bat after bat after bat.

He is a heart attack closer and if he wants mega bucks, it won't happen here. He's one pitch away from having his arm fall off as all closers are.

You are the one looking through blinders.

Another stellar outing by Papelbon today; loads the bases and lucks out when Diaz chased a pitch two feet over his head.

The morons in the Bronx are going to have a field day with this guy, 2011 can't come fast enough.........

Papelbon is a huge douche. He's become my least favorite Sox far before this. He says shyt like this all the time now.

I also think he's mildly overrated as a player and likely won't have a long & dominant career. I like that the Sox seem to be working on contingency plans (Bard) for him.

Heart attack closer with 1 blown save and a 9.6 k per 9 umm ok whatever
Mariano is done out of gas and everyone not wearing a yankee hat knows it. He is the greatest clser of all tiime that we agree on he was inhuman for the longest time which is unheard of for closers

Paps will still for many years to come a great closer his arm is no closer to falling off than any other pitcher. he went on the DL once in 4 years and everyone makes it out like his arm is made out of glass. How the hell would the Boston Beaner know if hitters have figured him out? wheres the the proof in the 1 blown save or is it in the 9.6 K per 9?? he has given up a few hits but he got the job done. Slocumb was a heart attack closer, so was Urbina. Foulke always scared me cause he threw 88. Paps throws 98 and when you can bring the heat you are always one well placed fastball out of a bad situation. Did I mention 1 blown save? Did i mention that the guy who broke records last year has 3 (last time I checked) You are ill informed and apparently arent going to be conviced but I figured you should know the truth

1 blown save 9.6 k per 9. if you are gonna beat a dead horse then so can I. how is making a great pitch and a guy not laying off of it luck? he burned a high fastball and he chased thats what you are supposed to do

Like I said when you go 98 on the gun you are one away from getting out of trouble

I think fans get to excited when a player interviews and misspeaks. Papelbon has always been rather out there. Remember the victory dance when Theo had to restrain him.
He's been golden for us. For some reason, he has not performed up the standards which we are accustomed (come in and throw heat that burns the laces). Let's not dump him because he said something lame.
My concern would be him becoming more erratic as he never walked anyone in the past. If he does fail as our closer, I want him in our rotation. Think about that rotation.

Keep beating.....................................................................that dead horse.

Paplebon is going to want $15M a year. Hes got a bad shoulder. He's not worth giving big money to.

His decision to go year to year means the Sox pay more right now, but it keeps them from making the huge mistake of giving a big long term contract to a reliever with arm trouble.

Don't let Cartmen hear you say that; he thinks Papelbon's shoulder is fine and he's worth giving raftloads of dough to.

A guy who's one pitch away from asking if you want fries with that=bye and thanks for playing, go to the Yankees, who cares........

Papelbon's act is wearing thin. I don't think the Sox will break the bank and besides he is 2 friggin years away. To GD soon to be talking about his contract. If this circus continues it wouldn't surprise me if the Sox trade him for a position player hopefully Bard will be able to close.

One thing I've noticed is Paps seems infinitely more hittable this season than any other point in his career thus far.

I hope he works out it. Much prefer to win the close games that coast through blowouts.
