Ellis Hobbs calls trade shocking

A good interview, Philly is getting a good kid.

Given that he was really taken by surprised and all, this is a remarkably well balanced and honest interview from a guy who really seems to be handling this with a lot of class.

I suppose when he stops to think about it, he'll understand why, as much as the front office respects him, there was no way they were going to let him know ahead of time that this was possible.

Good luck in Philly Ellis, always enjoyed you being on the patriots, the eagles are lucky to have you.

This guy's gonna get killed by the Eagles fans when he starts giving up automatic first downs LOL. From that interview, he's got ridiculously inflated ego and thinks highly of himself.

I'm gonna miss his KO returns, but I won't miss him 10 yards off the line of scrimmage when it's 3rd and 4.

Good riddance.

Now I no longer have to worry about my heart skipping a beat every time I see Hobbs covering 1v1 deep.

looks like my boy rivers was obviously wrong about hobbs

the worst cb in the nfl wouldn't be able to garner a whole 2 5th round draft picks

lol

LOL, yeah it was surprising that we were getting rid of him that fast. I thought we'd let him run out of his contract. But you heard him, he wants to get PAID. And the Pats weren't going to do that for a JAG corner. Hope he enjoys the city of 'brotherly love' more. Their fans booed santa claus, I wonder what they'll do to Hobbs when he gets burned for his next TD pass?

I don't understand this idea that he's not worth $2.5 million.

Do I really need to recount some of the CB contracts handed out this offseason? I'd take Ellis over some of the guys signing on for 6 or 7 mill a season. Doesn't mean I think Ellis is worth anywhere near that much, but is he better than the 4th CB on Buffalo? Heck yeah!

Trading Hobbs, We have saved 2.25 Mil off the cap!! There must be something going on here!! We didnt pick up a pass rusher either. I think Tyrone McKenzie is more of an ILB in the 3-4 than an OLB.

I am bummed, I like Hobbs

Good Luck to you on your team, thanks for the hard work!

It is a shocking trade. I was surprised. I imagine most all of us here were surprised this afternoon. I'm sure it was a shocker for Hobbs.

With the trades of Hobbs and Vrabel this off-season, Belichick is sending a clear message that having one of the worst defensese in the NFL is unacceptable in New England and that it won't be business as usual.

I was shocked but not terribly disappointed - although I thought he might be worth a little more.

Looks like Bodden and Springs will be the starters with Wheatley, Wilhite, Butler and Richardson competing for 3-6.

Hobbs is a charismatic kind of guy and a bit of a bigmouth. I wonder whether he was traded in part so that he would NOT be a leader on defense.

Alternatively, I wonder whether it was believed he wouldn't take well to losing his starting job, and was shipped out before he could be annoying.

Maybe. Another possibility is that the Pats have decided they just don't want to get into contract battles with veterans. Get what you can get for them before they hit free agency and move on.

I always thought Hobbs did well against Reggie Wayne - especially on deep routes where there was no safety help.

Too bad the refs screwed him over more than once in those situations.

I'll miss him for that alone...

Barring further major moves or siginificant injuries, I'm going to pencil in the Super Bowl as Patriots vs. Eagles. Hobbs and Samuel will have their chance to stick it to their old team, and vice versa.

Works for me - a great storyline SB - and Hobbs/Samuel can't compete with Moss and Galloway on the outside
