Re: Chiefs trade Gonzales to Falcons

He is on the downhill side of his career, has been a clubhouse problem, is pretty much hated by the fans in KC and has a good sized salary. Boy wish we had him.

Other than the fact that he's still an All Pro and Pro Bowler, and produces like one, is loved by the fans in KC and his problem in the clubhouse is that he's tired of losing (you know, like Moss), you've really nailed it.

96 catches, 1058 yards, 16 games played LAST YEAR - and this DESPITE POS personnel around him.

BTW - with all that crying McNabb has made to Philly's FO over getting more playmakers, I'm shocked the best they offered was a 3rd rounder.

Overall - a very good trade for Atlanta - the 2nd rounder is from 2010, and they can now shore up their D in this year's draft(most mocks had them nabbing Pettigrew in the 1st, so looks like that's off the table).

Re: Chiefs trade Gonzales to Falcons

Glad Pats passed. He gonna block ? Grumble when the ball doesn't go to him ? Rather have that 2nd. Another solid Pioli move. Get rid of those who don't want to be there.

Boy, the KC forums have been ripping him a bunch over the last year. And if you don't think his best years are behind him, well, I would disagree.

Have these same KC forums been ripping Herm Edwards and their QBs just as much too?

Re: Chiefs trade Gonzales to Falcons

Atlanta still has some good weapons, and it will be interesting to see how TG fits into their system. He certainly has a history of not wanting to block. can't say I disagree with him, because he has good hands.

The problem is that, as we have seen with Rodney, when you reach a certain age, injuries become nagging, they are harder to heal, and despite the intensity of play on the field, you become easier to get injured. No matter what regimen you follow, a 30-something simply cannot heal and take the hits that a 20-something can.

Now, I wish TG all the best in his new home, but I question his ability to have numbers there approaching anything like he had last year.

respects,

Re: Chiefs trade Gonzales to Falcons

There are not enough footballs to spread around. We now have three TEs all of whom can play. The position only gets 30-40 receptions to split among them. Do you wan to take deep receptions from Moss or Galloway or Welker? Why add another, and an old TE? I'd rather use the second to draft an offensive lineman...

Re: Chiefs trade Gonzales to Falcons

Does this make Mike Vrabel the starting Tight End for the Falcons now?

For the Chiefs yes

Re: Chiefs trade Gonzales to Falcons

Gonzo has never been known for his blocking.. And since the Pats hardly use the TE in their 1 back Formation with 3 WR split out, the quesitons about bringing him in here for a 2nd has to be laughed at.. We need Defensive Speed, REALLY BAD..

Right, and 10 picks wouldn't have been enough for that. That 11th one is essential, even though one would likely be used on a tight end if they aren't all traded away.

It was never a realistic expectation, but Brady under center with one back along with Moss, Galloway, Welker and Gonzalez would have been fun to watch.
