Are the Pats the fastest team?

I care to comment.

Obviously we will be focusing on building speed on defense. Defense is my bag, but...

Offensively-we are one of the faster teams out there.
Having fast players and being able to score faster than the opponents are two different things....and time management is key (don't want the defense on the field too much)

Fred Taylor will be an upgrade at RB.
Kevin will still be a hybrid Back/Rec.
LoMo will show up this year strong
Morris is fast and strong-Running game looks great.

A strong/healthy O-line that can keep the gorillas off Brady.
Oline is VERY important this year.

Brady's timing w/ recievers will be crucial and he's working hard right now to decimate the upcoming defenses....I'm very anxious to see this years offensive onslaught!
It will be very FAST!
We will spread that field and pick teams apart.

I see turnovers and our new young defense putting points up as well.
I agree with both these points. I really hope the O-Line can step up. I have never been sold on the unit, even in the '07 regular season when people were saying they were the best in football. I hope they step up.

Getting younger on defense was an absolute must for BB and the organization. Team speed along with BB scheming should put the Patriots among the top echelon defensively. As good as our defense has been in the past, I don't think we've ever had great athleticism. We've always just had smart guys who put themselves in good position. If we can retain that aspect and add much needed athleticism, that's scary for the rest of the NFL, including the defending champs, even though they're not on our schedule this upcoming regular season.

We have the fastest TE in the league and that helps us how?

in case brady gets picked off and we need him to chase the dude down.

Re: ARe the Pat's the fastest Team?

Not sure but I'd rather have a slower RB who actually plays and a slower TE that can actually catch and is not known for his speed. This ain't no track meet.

Well said this ain't no track meet LOL

Ben is a better than average TE in a system that doesn't use the TE as a WR much. Last year being an anomaly, with Tom back in and some new thoughts on O, I think Ben will easily retain the starter spot and see more action in the Red Zone.

4-wide with Watson, Moss, Galloway and Welker, Faulk in the backfield... Ah sh!t, son... you best blitz FAST!

Got them too! Sammie Morris and Fred Taylor are slower but good RBs, Thomas and Baker are slower but fair TEs.

But remember:

Speed Kills!

He can stop Champ Bailey from scoring on an interception.

I definately agree. With the addition of Moss and Welker I think Watson got a few less passes.

I'm noy sure speed matters....overall...but take a look at the last minute drive by Cassel in the Jet game and how quick those O linemen were down the field after the play....That they were able to get downfield and line up fast was a real key to that. After that I watched other situations like that and saw a big difference.....

Re: ARe the Pat's the fastest Team?

ten characters and a big, fat NO.

There's a lot of dislike for Watson on this board. I guess people were expecting him to be Jesus, the Easter Bunny, and Bill Gates combined.

He catches passes in critical moments. One heck of a lot of big catches were made by Watson in 2007. He did have a bad drop against the Ravens, but Moss' entire game against the steelers last season was drops. Brady got him the ball and he was dangerous. Cassel didn't even read the field during pass players until december of last season, so I wouldn't get to synical about Watson's performances. He's rare because he's a blocker and a pass catcher. We wouldn't be able to do a lot of what we do if Watson was strictly a pass catcher or run blocker.

I think if you add a size factor into the equation, then the Pats should be in the top 3. Teams that run the cover-2 scheme are faster then the Pats, but also much smaller.

started anothe rpost to look at thespeed of the Defwense. This is. about Offense.

Moss 4.28
Galloway 4.23
Maroney 4.45
Watson 4.5

That is a extremely fast set of "skill" players.
