I agree they have Maualuga slipping to 35. I would much rather have him over Johnson, and then we could take a saftey at 89 but that is my only gripe.

I would not argue if we got these picks but I really think MM had done better in the past, I am not a fan of this mock as a whole but for us its cool.

First thing that jumped out at me was Darius Butler going #13 which I though was too high, Jenkins is the only DB I would take that high.

Rashad Johnson at #34 is way too high, I do not care if Saban is call BB daily about his kid I would not take before #58 but that is just my opinion and if we missed out on Dalmus, Smith or Chung.

Clay Mathews not even a full time starter at USC and MM has him in the middle of the first and his two teammates Cushing and Maualuga not going until the second?? I know we have ripped these two apart but I really do not see both of them sliding out of the first round. Heck that will be a long wait in the green room for Cushing

His safeties are in the wrong order IMO. He has Alphonso Smith, CB/S @ number 46 then Darcel McBath, FS @49 then Sherrod Martin, S, Troy @50 then William Moore, S, Missouri @51. The best safety IMO Dalmus he has going behind all these guys at #55 and Chung is way down at #78.

To finish off I think Jeremy Maclin is too low going to the Ravens (who would love to see him still on the board) and Ziggy Hood lasting all the way to #54 seem unrealistic but who am I to judge

If my need was for a ready-to-go free safety, I would choose Rashad Johnson. The only other consideration at 34 would be Delmas, who will likely already be gone. First, any Florida St. DE scares me. Wimbley is the only exception out of a ton that have failed in the NFL. However, Brown plays a lot like Dwight Freeney and has a nasty spin move. Rashad Johnson at #34 would be terrible. Maualuga is the better pick. I like Unger at the last pick in the second round. Their 3rd round picks are awful.

I agree he is a very cerebral defender who's very instinctive and will pick up the NFL game very well. With our current situation at Safety, Johnson reminds me of our two current starters. I think if we are going to take a safety this year it should be a guy like Moore, Smith or Chung. Dalmus and Johnson are going to be great safety but need more weight to stand the punishment they will be taking.

When it comes down to it I would take one of these three and would be excited with Dalmus or Johnson but all of them I would take between 34, 47 and 58. At 89 guys like Chip Vaughn, Michael Hamlin and Chris Clemons would be good consolation prizes if we miss out on a Safety in the second round.

A guy who I really like is David Bruton and BB connection with Weis should give a good insight to this kid. I do remember him doing really well at the combine and when I watched ND last year he was one of the few guys I remember.

Brown is quite a bit shorter than listed in the FSU guide and plays the run as poorly as Johnson of Ga. Tech does.

I find it interesting how far Everett Brown has fallen as scouts and media get to know him better. He was a top ten pick a month ago. Some of us were ready to trade up to 10 for him. Now, he is available at 23 and some have him out of the first entirely. This seems very unusual without any character rumors.

It has nothing to do with his Character. Actually scouts and coaches rave about his character. I think it has to do with the height issue. Most still think he is the top or one of the top Pass Rushers in this draft. I dont think he is going to fall to #23 but I hope so(selfishly)

But Brown was a top 10 pick (or perhaps top 12) after the combine. He hasn't lost height since then.

Belichick can determine his value. I recall that it was not too long ago that we discussing trading up to 9-14 for Jackson or Brown. Jackson has moved up and Brown down.

I think it's more so that the so called experts actually talked to real talent evaluators and they were collectively told that Brown is a 43 end. Hence the "rapid plummet".

Typical so called expert 34 OLB conversion evaluation:
1) Undersized DE?
2) Fast?
3) School I recognize?
TOP 10!!!!

Actually, this is a terrific mock. I'm not on the Maualuga bandwagon, but he has obvious ability and if BB took him at 23 I would not be that upset. What I really like is the shape of the draft:

- Rebuild the LBs with Maualuga and Barwin
- Round out the OL with Meredith and Levitre
- Add depth at DL with Gilbert
- Add depth at safety; if you substitute Chip Vaughn (going in this mock at 105) for Nick Harris then you have a fabulous first 3 rounds

Add some late round talent such as Mike Wallace WR at 124 (going 158), Joe Burnett CB at 170 (going 174), Devin Moore RB (not listed), Brian Hoyer QB (not listed), and Vaughn Martin DT (not listed) for depth or the practice squad and you have one heck of a draft.

My Canadian friend, Vaughn Martin, is actually their in the sixth round #189 I think to SD.

He thinks hes a system QB with mediocre arm strength, decent accuracy and average decision making.

23-Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC - I would not be disappointed but has work to do.
34-Connor Barwin, DE/OLB, Cincinnati - The classic BB guy but should focus on OLB and become great.
47-Jarron Gilbert, DE, San Jose State - Good move considering the Seymour situation and if he progresses quickly in 09 is much cheaper.
58-Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina - Versatile OL that could maybe push either starting T depending on how he picks up the offense but should start in 2010.
89-Andy Levitre, G, Oregon State - I think this kid is a steel here in the draft for us and he fills a need for our future.
97-Nic Harris, SS, Oklahoma - Early on I loved this kid but changed my opinion on him as things went on. Did not run fast enough to be a DB at the NFL level but will be a good OLB. I would take Shonn Greene which was one pick later.
124-Brandon Gibson, WR, Washington State
170-John Phillips, TE, Virginia
199-Ian Johnson, RB, Boise State (we need to go QB here it is just a lucky number for us
207-Brit Miller, ILB, Illinois
234-Sammie Stroughter, WR/PR, Oregon State - could have had Frantz Joseph 4 spots later.


Not much change but I would not be too disappointed
