I like, now either trade 34 for Pep or draft an olb at 34.

Re: Goselin's 2nd mock draft

I feel pretty confident that BB would get Rey to contribute to the D, but something tells me he's not going to take him... the only LB he's taken with a high pick was Mayo, and he was quite "off the radar" until the weekend of last year's draft.

Rumors of Rey's weeknesses push me to think that he's not as adaptable as the Patriots would need in their system.

Who knows ? Maybe they go that way... but I'm expecting the unexpected. With the reinforcements they got in FA (not that they're going to be 2009 Pro-bowlers, but...) - best player available is sounding better and better.

Senechal, I've been traveling, which is why I havent commented before on this mock. I do find 1 round mocks at this late stage of the draft somewhat disappointing, since I would hope by now that most would have a handle on at least 2-3 rounds. For the Pats, with 4 first day picks, I am much more interested in seeing how all 4 picks could shape up than in 1 round mocks.

I'm not sure what there is to say that hasn't already been said about Maualuga to the Pats. SILB is clearly a position of need. Im not sold on Maualuga as a 3-down backer or having the smarts and discipline to play within the Pats system, but if BB is then its a great pick.

I think that there will be at least one and possibly several big name picks who could fall to the Pats at 23: Malcolm Jenkins, Vontae Davis, Maualuga, Everette Brown, Knowshon Moreno and Percy Harvin to name just a few. Plus most of William Beatty, Connor Barwin, Donald Brown, Darius Butler, Larry English, Jarron Gilbert, Hakeem Nicks and Louis Delmas. I think some combination of those guys will likely be the picks at 23 and 34. Tyson Jackson seems to be rising fast and will likely go top 16.

Sorry that I duplicated this thread. I did do a search, (but misspelled Gosselin), and I couldn't believe that it hadn't been posted. I'm sure the moderators can merge these two threads...
Mayo has a good point above. I think that the Pats can truly just wait on this draft as talent will fall to them.

If it falls this way, it will be a great draft for Denver (Raji and Ayers).

Re: Goselin's 2nd mock draft

This forum is very strange in that no one really cares about Gosselin's mocks vs all of the others posted. Perhaps folks are waiting till his final mock to find out who the Pats will be selecting.

Anyway, this mock was already posted and had 223 views with only one reply.

So now you're mocking me?

I agree with the need, but since Goose isn't trying to match a player with a team as much as he's matching the name of a warm body with a team need, it meant diddly to me. :snob:

Has anythng changed regarding whether Maualuga can be an everydown passer?

If not I tend not to see this happening - but obviously I'll defer to BB on these matters!

If anything, Maualuga would likely be a better fit on passing downs in this defense than he would rushing downs.

It's just hard to say much about this 1-round mock. Yep, the Pats could use a stud next to Mayo. Some of us feel Maualuga fills the bill, others don't. Give me something to chew on at #34, 47 & 58, and maybe I'll muster up more excitement or agita.

I think we're talked out. Speaking for myself, what's the point in saying "yeah I'd love to get Maualuga" only to be called stupid again ? Been there done that.

24,000 posts and you're still concerned about being called stupid? That's stupid!!

I agree that we are tired and would like this to be Saturday in the worst way. I also agree that Gosselin's mocks have been ignored while we have spent hundreds of posts on the mocks of others. Gosselin is certainly among the very best at valuing players and in developing mocks.

While we all understand that Gosselin's first two mocks do not include the effect of rumors and personal preferences of teams, they still provide considerable insight regarding the value of the players, especially at linebacker. Both mocks reflect the values of the players, although the second includes the likelihood that teams will pass or reach because of need. Apparently, the stock of Cushing has gone down this week. All others have been pusch down because teams pick other positions moving down the higher-valued linebackers.
=========================
1st the pure value grade
2nd the value grade changed by need

MAYBIN 11 and 13
AYERS 15 and 16
MAUALUGA 16 and 23
MATTHEWS 23 and 25
CUSHING 24 and 19
LAURINITIS 25 and 30
BARWIN not 1st round value
ENGLISH not first round value
SINTIM not first round value
=========================

This evaluations can be taken for what they are: Gosselin's opinions of the value of these players. We poster can say that his opinions are worth diddly and find some scout's comment that demeans one of the players and moves him off our board. Or we can consider that a team with the 23rd and 34th pick along with five others in the top 124 can get a first round value LB or 2 if it chooses to do so.

When does he come out with the final mock? He must have a lot of moles in a lot of organizations to be as accurate as he is.

Re: Goselin's 2nd mock draft

I get it.
Like I've said over and over, I expect, and want, a guy who has played for at least 3 years at his position who also has reasonable upside. Mauagluga. Butler. Moreno. Petttigrew. Nicks. Guys like that. There is a value to seeing a guy do it for more than one year, seeing teams adjust, seeing him adjust to their adjustments, etc.

I for one dont know how or why Laurinatis name has completely dropped off most radars. The Guy is a perfect compliment to Mayo at the Will

Probably because he's not viewed as a perfect compliment and more like a slower, less physical clone.
