NFL Mock Drafts - Matthews

If we stand "pat" and pick at #23 Clay Matthews looks to be the most logical choice based on our perceived need....

However, the real value in this first round looks to be OL players.....

No secret I am on the Matthews train...... "Bloodlines"

If it all went that way id be all aboard for Oher in the first and Barwin at #34. Add a safety and one of the guards in the second and im all done

This would be perfectly acceptable too! No matter how we slice it among binkys and so forth, you gotta love our positioning #23 thru #60!

"Bloodlines"

I think this is a good spot to announce that if I was to do my father's job based on bloodlines, it would not go well for anybody.

John Henry Williams
Chris Simms
Chris Bourque
Daniel Baldwin
George W...nevermind.

I wonder where London Fryar and Jairus Byrd, among others, appear on your draft board.

If Oher were available at #23 the phone lines in Foxboro would be ringing off the hook with trade offers.

Matthews does not fit in the patriots style of 3-4 defense. He is 240lbs when wet. Our need is OLB, which in our 3-4 is someone who is 260-270lbs. I would rather have Larinitas if we were picking a mlb. If oher or britton isn't there with this pick, I would move out of the first round.

No way the Pats will draft JL. Too slow, doesn't shed blocks.

Matthews could actually be a better ILB in a 3-4.

I think the needs for '10 outweigh the needs of '09 -- because the positions they need in '10 are harder to get in FA (cost) and draft (pick level), and needing time to learn the game.

So I think DL and OT mix in with OLB for the first 3 picks.

All these guys must work for IBM.

Kirwan has the Lions taking Jason Smith. Smith IMO, is the best player in the draft and the Lions would be smart to take him. Stafford does not measure up to other QB's taken #1 overall. The Loins could get one of the Browns QB's for their 3rd rounder.

Before we even think about drafting Fryar, BB needs to have a complete inventory of all kitchen uternsils, so we know how many knifes to throw away.

On the other hand, I like Byrd a lot. But not as a CB, rather as a FS, where Bb can utilize his ball skills and superior tackling skills. I have BB taking Byrd with the 3rd second round pick. It may be a half round or so overdraft, but don't see him being available when we draft in the third.

PS: I did see propose a mock where we traded all 3 second round picks to Washington for #13 and wound up taking DE Tyson Jackson 1A, CB Darius Butler 1B, Conner Barwin 3A, and Byrd 3B.

I agree re: Jairus. I think he's free safety all the way....and punt returner.

I'd hate to think we give up three good players for Jackson...and I like him better than most.

Mike Mayock discusses OLB prospects on Path to the Draft...almost as much fun as a Bollywood clip.

It will be interesting as if we pick Matthews or Cushing at #23 is that it for Barwin. Will PatsFans forum members all turn off in disgust

I'm starting to lean towards us going Sean Smith, Meredith and Gilbert in the second

I wonder just how high they rate Woods and Crable and if Jason Taylor signs ..

If we sign Taylor before the draft, we might not take an olb in the 1st two rounds. As you mentioned, depends what BB thinks of Crable and Woods. A.Thomas isn't ready to be put to pasture for a while. If we think Crable is the long-term answer to replace J.Taylor, maybe no olb. Will definately cause someone to post a Bill Belichick has lost it poll.

I wonder how many of the same people who want mathews are the same who would wanted carpenter a few years back. Sorry don't want a guy in the first who was the 3 rd best lb on his own team. Bloodlines don't really mean much in the NFL. Just like all the barwin people who are so incestous that any one compared to a patriot is drooled over. Seriously who cares if he play tight end too this team needs a pure pass rusher. Not to say barwin in the 2nd would be bad but not At 23. English is the pick that would really start my draft day on the right foot. but to each his own.
