Reiss: Cassel most likely to KC

From a little over a week ago, this is what he said about his value :

Draft Headquarters Blog Blog Archive Inside Info

"- The two favorites for Matt Cassel are Detroit and Kansas City. With Detroit, it’s believed that they would give up at least the No. 20 selection that they obtained for wide receiver Roy Williams from the Cowboys. For the Chiefs, they would likely swap their No. 3 pick with New England’s No. 23 pick. The team that doesn’t land Cassel would likely take Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford."

No-ones ever really mentioned that deal from KC. The #3 for MC and NE's #23. Guess we would trade out of that or maybe get a top OLB like Orakpo/Curry? Maybe even go for someone like Jenkins at S if we could trade down?

I think Detroit could be half decent offensively .. they have Johnson and Smith, Sims and Furrey. They just need some Oline to keep the QB upright which they cna get in the draft and FA

I can see the Lions asking for Matt Cassel and our #58 for their high 2nd #33 and 2010 first.

Re: Reiss Cassel most likly to KC

kc's draft pick could do us sum good

Stafford is not throwing at the Combine. He either has a deal with Detroit on the down-low, or he's getting gun-shy. If it's the latter, I think we're looking for the Cassel situation to get mental on the opening of FA.

KC might be likely, but if Stafford is wussing out, and especially is Sanchez doesn't rock his Combine performance, this could turn out to be a landmark trade as he Vikings, Lions and Chiefs bid on Matt. Only Pioli will have enough sense to shut down bidding before it gets ******ed.

Maybe im being simplistic but there must be a deal .. why on earth would any kid turn up to the combine and not throw .. the body of work is there on film as is the stats ..

I don't see the Patriots waiting to trade Cassel until Draft Day. That clogs up extending Wilfork, signing FA's, etc... - WAY too long into the off-season. No way, no how. He gets dealt less than a week after FA officially begins.

I'm willing to up the ante to "less than an hour".

with the other thread starting about how the patriots are starying extension talks with wilfork. it leads me to think that maybe there has been a handshake with someone and patriots are now moving onto new issues like resignings. just a possability

Even if he doesn't go to the Chiefs, the Pats benefit by having KC prominently mentioned as a trading partner. The question most GMs are going to have is how much of Cassel's success was due to being in the Pats' system. Since Piolio had a unique vantagepoint on his play, his interest in acquiring him sends a good signal to the rest of the league.

Stafford is considered by most the #1 prospect right now. So if you have no where to go but down why take that chance?

This is just pure speculation on Reiss' part. I've heard he himself say that he has no "pipeline" on this one.

I think the strong indications of KC will increase the Lion's bid. The #20 is more appealing than the #3 or #35, obviously, especially if can get the #33 with it.

I will be shocked if we somehow keep Cassel if Brady comes back and all indications say that he will be back.I do hope we get a trade because we need to get some value for him now.

ok, here's a thought about Cassel...

Wouldn't he be a 'hero' in Detroit if he could win even 43.75% of their games next year?

I think someone said this earlier but the Lions are in a mess. I can see them just building from the bottom and having Culpepper as a stop gap next year and wait for a shot at Tebow, McCoy etc next year. I just dont see how taking on Cassel helps them with the world of pain they're in

Vikes and 49ers seem to have ruled themselves out .. which only really leaves KC

Stafford not working out just helps the Pats. Sanchez did not look impressive at all. I think Stafford will perform at his pro day. Depending on how he looks there, Cassel could be considered the #1 QB option for the Lions or Chiefs if he isn't already there.

Cassel to Detroit just makes too much sense. Franchise LT with the #1 and franchise QB with #20. Do you think that Josh Freeman or Stafford for that matter is going to come in his rookie season and do what Cassel has already proven that he can do?

You still haven't explained why taking Stafford #1 overall helps the Lions more than taking Cassel with pick #20 overall. I think Detroit is still a player.
Detroit needs to plug in veterans that can turn their team around NOW, not plug in a fresh of the boat guy who might become good 2-3 years from now.

We'll find out even more who the real suitors are once free agency begins.

Do the Pats have to leak something to indicate to teams that Matt is "affordable" ? Whether that be a high to mid R2 ? or whatever ?

The impression I'm getting, and I'm reading a bunch of other papers and team boards from potential suitors is that Matt is flat out too expensive whether it be the contract and the picks required to get him or even just the picks, money aside. That's why we've seen Minny look in a different direction, they felt they couldn't afford him and had to go down a different and more affordable path.

Well the question is what will we take ? I know BB would never, ever release that, but it makes you wonder if teams would even inquire about Cassel based on the public perception of how expensive he would be. Might not hurt to call ole friend Tommy Curran to help straighten out the actual and true asking price for Matt's services.

I'm not not totally buying that, and neither is this guy...

Vikes Geek: Is Addition of Rosenfels Vikings' Attempt at Subterfuge?

There is another more hopeful explanation for the Vikings' presumed addition of Rosenfels, namely, that the Vikings are using the addition of Rosenfels to disguise their interest in other free-agent quarterbacks such as Kurt Warner and Jeff Garcia, or to drive down the trade value of New England Patriots' quarterback Matt Cassel and New York Jets' quarterback Brett Favre. By adding Rosenfels, the Vikings are at least signaling that they got the quarterback they want for 2009. Given Childress' resort to similarly uninspiring quarterbacks in his annual quarterback battles, the league certainly would be prone to accept such a sale.

Since this deal can't be consummated until Friday, let's just wait until it happens, shall we?
