poll coming up

the questino is simple, if the pats were to sign Asomugha, what is the max they should give up in yearly salary (exclude bonus for this), im interested in cap hit numbers

Re: How much would u be willing to pay Asomugha (a year)?

Nothing personal,but IMO this type of conversation would be more apt when the season is over and its offseason and time to spend the money time eh?

Bill Belichick, Matt Cassel, Randy Moss etc have to play one game at a time.

But me, you, ALP we can speculate about next year. We can have poll on what team we want to win the NFCCG so we can beat in the SB even though we haven't secured a playoff spot. We can overlook AZ and think about the Bills game.

The team can't, us fans can. This poll will not have a negitive impact on the teams performance this sunday.

Id be ok with the Pats sending over there 1st and 3rd over to the Raiders for Nhamdi along with 8mil a year to him.

I have no idea,havent seen enough of him ,any posters who have seen a lot of Raiders games can you enlighten us as to this players ability?

This is what I like about this situation

CB
Asomugha
Hobbs
Wheatley
Wilhite
Sanders

Looks rather handy if you ask me as a starting point.

Best cover corner in the NFL hands down. Plays straight bump n run man to man coverage with no saftey help. Has had under 20 completed passes on him the entire year I believe. Great size for a corner hes 6'2 210lbs with long arms and really good speed.

Moss got him a couple times this past game but was right there to make the stop instantly, also had a couple of holding penalties called against him.

lol, i havent seen him either, so ill give u some stats...

hes allowed 11 completions all year (3 to moss in that game)

stats arent everything....but damn

11 completions all year?

Crap, I knew he was good, but didn't realize it was that good.

What we're overlooking is that this same conversation is probably going on in 30 other team's fan forums - and will or already has taken place in 30 other NFL front offices.

Wish I had whatever your on to keep me and mr. daniels company...seriously, if Randy Moss, arguably the BEST WR TO EVER PLAY THE GAME is worth 6 mil against the cap to the team, do you really think they are going to toss a 1st (especially the way we regard picks...) and hand this guy 8 mil a yr against the cap? Most I see us coughing up is a 2nd plus a high day 2 and maybe offer 6 mil with a decent signing bonus. No way in hell we pay him 8+ against the cap. You guys are smoking something funny, and it isn't the recently voted decriminalized variety (wouldnt be surprised if the POS MA gov't ignored that for a few more months...!@#$%^'s!).

Moss isnt making 6 mil per year, as Miguel stated earlier his salary is coming out to 9 million a year. So yes I would pay 8 million a year to a true shutdown corner.

Do signing bonuses count against the cap? If not, randy is a 6 mil cap hit, with 3 mil of that nine mil being his signing bonus. If it does count against the cap, I stand corrected.

Im pretty sure signing bonuses dont count against the cap.

According to Miguel's cap page:

Randy Moss
* Base salaries:
* 2008: $1.9 million
* 2009: $6.4 million
* 2010: $6.4 million

* Salary cap charges:
* 2008: $6 million
* 2009: $10.5 million
* 2010: $10.5 million

Asante Samuel is getting around $6 million a year in Philadelphia I believe. I'm not saying that Asomugha isn't a better overall CB, he likely is, but I don't think the Pats can sign him to more than that. If they do they are basically admitting a mistake and abandoning the philosophy that they attach a price tag to a given position and don't stray too far from it. I'm not one to get hung up one "messages" but IMO this would send a pretty poor message. He maybe unhappy in Oakland, but that's the worst situation in the NFL so it's not like he's a veteran that just wants one last shot at a ring, he probably just wants to play for a decent team. I have no idea if he's that "dedicated" to winning, but it seems unlikely to me that he'd really stray too far from better offers.

Now Im confused, I was under the impression that Randy had a 9 mil signing bonus. Just going with simple subtraction, the cap hits total 12.3 more than his yearly salaries. I assume I am missing something...performance incentives? I have no idea...

Asante is a different cb, and more of a gambler. Remember close to as many gambled pick attempts turn into tds as picks when he was around here...NA is a true shutdown corner, whereas asante is a cover gamble type. BTW...the pick6 the other night was on a real short in that he must have seen stallworth run millions of times last year in practice...with a back up throwing the pass, not TfB.

I agree with that, and I'm not saying he isn't worth the extra dough. I just think it's tough for the Pats as an organization to pay that much for a corner a year after they wouldn't pay Asante. Of course, I know nothing, they may have let him go with Namhdi on their mind the whole time, and I've never payed close attention to salary figures but I didn't think the Pats would want to pay a CB that much.

I would be more interested in the guaranteed money, rather than dollars per season.
