I have a horrible feeling in my stomach that we miss out on a playoff appearance this year. Please god don't let it be true!!!

I never did understand why teams don't rough the hell out of the QB when they run the wildcat formation. I miss the days when the Patriots use to punish the opposing team with physical defense.

BB explains:

"1) Getting physical with the quarterback. When the Dolphins run the package, they split quarterback Chad Pennington out wide, so some might say "Why not get physical with Pennington?" Belichick said he has not seen many opponents take that approach and he explained why: “You’re just playing with one less guy if you do that. You can get that player involved in the [running] play and kind of play 11 against 10. If you want to take that player out of there, and go hit Pennington, you can do that but I think most teams have tried to play with that extra player instead of giving one up.”

I thought the same thing, knock the snot out of Chad, so the Phins are reluctant to do it again, but our resident genius, who is a whole lot smarter than me sees it as an opportunity to be up a man on D. I see his point, but not sure it worked last time. I would still rather hit Chad and hard. It's the one shot you have when you won't get a roughing the passer flag.

I know what you mean

If we don't beat Miami then we are done - toast,nada,bye-bye-sionara,see ya later ect:

The Pats would be all but out of division hopes and looking at some help from others to gain a shot at a #6 - It would be a bad situation - Sunday is a MUST win...

It would be bleak i admit but not done, we could still pull off 5 in a row, unlikely but possible. Remember in 2001 we were 5-5 and ran off 9 straight and a SB championship. That will always be my favorite season.

The last 3 years had Pittsburgh with an improbable run to win it as a 6th seed, then Indy won it as a 3rd seed and the Giants did it as a 5th seed.

Any team can get hot in ''thee tournament'' and that includes this years Patriots.

1. Titans 10-0
2. Steelers 7-3
3. Jets 7-3
4. Broncos 6-4
5. Colts 6-4
6. Ravens 6-4

Patriots and Dolphins are also 6-4 and out of the playoffs based on crushing conference losses, Colts beat the Ravens and Patriots, Ravens beat the Dolphins. Patriots must beat Miami or they are in serious trouble.

The Patriots can still win their last 6 and get the 2nd playoff bye, 5 of 6 should be enough to get in the playoffs but 4 of 6 is iffy at best to even get a wildcard at this point, the 2 CRUSHING losses to the Colts and Jets that they should of had now leave no margin for error.

Thoughts on where the Patriots finish the year are welcome.

Funny - my definition of "CRUSHING" isn't "exceptionally close games that were decided by one close or questionable play (or a coin flip for that matter)."

I'm not saying I'm not disappointed, nor that there are serious consequences to losing games in the division or conference

I'm just wondering why someone would feel a need to disparage what were two excellent games where our backups showed they were very nearly better than another team's starters?

I know people love to keep a eye on playoff seeds but realistically its pointless to look at them now with 6 weeks still remaining in the season.

I agree, it's way too early to declare a 6-4 team out of it if they lose next week. The standings can change dramatically very quickly - just ask the Buffalo Bills. Regardless, it is still fun for fans to analyze and debate possible playoff scenarios. Tennessee takes the South, and San Diego tries to catch Denver in the West. That leaves four playoff spots to be had among seven teams: the Colts, Steelers, Ravens, Jets, Pats, Dolphins and Bills. So now I know six teams that I'll be rooting against for the rest of the season.

Actually it's not - the Dolphins and Colts both have some pretty easy games ahead.

I stated facts about conference losses, disparage is what your trying to do with this thread. There is a lot of disparaging going on here, in fact, some posters here would have nothing to post if not for disparaging, personal remarks/attacks.

They were close games and they were crushing losses, there is nothing excellent about losing a game you should of won. Perhaps this is the conundrum. I got over the 2 blowout losses much easier than the heartbreaking losses. I am glad you were so pleased with the excellent 3 point losses, i was not.

Why do people get so overly emotional and try to take a discussion about football and turn it into something personal? I don't go into what i think is a foolish thread and start the personal garbage. Usually the subject says it all and i can decide which subject interests me. If it's a subject i don't care to respond to such as ''should Cassel replace Brady? '' for instance, then i won't click on it, it's a waste of my time.

And why are the Patriots injuries always worse than any other teams injuries? The Colts had just as many injuries and the Jets have a new QB just as the Patriots do. True the Jets were probably the most healthy team we faced but which team made more mistakes? Both games were CRUSHING LOSSES.

Your right, should we wait until week 16 to even mention anything playoff related or is week 17 better for you? I don't know why a Patriot fan or a football fan in general, talks about football during the season, this place should close down until January, clearly anything said before then is '' pointless ''.
