i am listening to various 'analysts' last couple of days like jamie dukes etc and wondered how they say the same thing every week about what a team needs win which any person who hasnt played a snap of football can say . This got me thinking , what is your favorite cliched, least informative and most obvious gameplan you hear from all these analysts ? .there are tons of candidates like
"they need to put pressure on the QB" - As if there is a situation where one shouldnt
"they need to put pressure up the middle"
"they need to run the ball and stop the run"

my all time favorite is "run the ball and control the clock " , with "they need to jam the receivers at the line of scrimmage" coming a close second.

i dont know...

"they need to protect the quarter back"

"they need to open the field"

my fave i think is "they have to cover the recievers better"

and "the coaches need to make some adjustments in halftime"

"If they don't turn the ball over, they'll have a good chance to win this game."

"The key to this game is which team can capitalize on turnovers."

"Whoever wins the battle of turnovers will be in good shape to win this game."

All actual statements that I have heard from "expert analysts."

While on the subject of turnovers, another pet peeve is "points off turnovers." A team intercepts a 3rd-and-15 50-yard pass and starts on or inside their own 20. They go on to score, but that's "7 points off a turnover" - how is that play any different from a punt? Conversely, a team is in the red zone and turns the ball over, but that does not show up under the 'points off turnovers' stat.

So when relating the importance of turnovers to points, turning the ball over on the 5 is not important enough to count, but forcing the opponent to drive 80 yards for a score is?

Rather than the useless 'points off turnovers' stat, how about 'points lost/gained off turnovers'. Include points scored on drives started from your own 40 or better off a turnover, and points lost when the team was within field goal range.

The team that wants it the most will win the game...

The team that scores more points will......................win!!!

I like the one "If you put a lot of pressure on QB x,he will make some mistakes" well, who wouldnt make mistakes with large men about to take your head off.Like a pilot trying to land an airliner with Terry Tate in the ****pit about to tackle him....it changes your decision making.

not if your name is Tom Brady...

"they need to get the ball in the hands of their play makers"

Sorry, not a gameplan theory but still one of my favourite aggravating quotes:

"[Favre] is just having fun..."
