Just found this on a couple of websites. Here's the story from Deadspin: Nfl: Seahawks Message Board Poster Succeeds In Creating Rivalry With The Giants, Fails As Human

And here's the NY Daily News story on it: The Blue Screen - NY Daily News

People b!tch and moan about Patriot fans, but I don't remember any of us going to this level, and we play the Jets twice a year AND lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl. Pretty tasteless by that Seahawks fan.

OTOH, it should be pointed out that New Yorkers are a disgusting group of sports fans who will boo anything and are a bunch of a-holes. If things were the other way around, they would be using the "It's just a joke, lighten up" card.

Anyways, discuss...

I'm normally all for free speech, but I think someone should isolate whoever came up with that crap on the top of a tall building, lock the door inside, and spray him with napalm.

What in the world is the matter with that "person"?

The freakin' SEATTLE SEAHAWKS have inspired the devotion of lowlifes like these?

I know I'm probably gonna hear alot of sht for this...but I dont really care that this guy said that, he has the right to say whatever he wants.

That's the problem with the Internet. Any idiot can write anything and everyone sees it. It used to be that the only people who wrote stuff that the general public saw were journalists, because it had to be printed in a publication. This guy is probably a teenager living in his parents' basement. It's just not worth the attention it's getting.

Who gives a sh*t that he had the right to say it? Calling someone out for saying something offensive and stupid is not the same as saying he had no constitutional right to say it. It's just being decent.

I agree. This is not a First Amendment question. It is well established that idiots have a license to say pretty much whatever they want without governmental intrusion. It's a question of what crosses the line of acceptable behavior in the context of sports rivalries.

And it is one thing to point to a uniquely New York thing that simply raises ire in their fans (busting on a politician or pointing to an embarrassing failure in sports or local government for example). This is a reference to a national tragedy with a substantial loss of lives that took place in New York but touched the entire nation that will piss off everybody, including people in Seattle. It is the equivalent of posting pictures of dead soldiers in Iraq who happened to be from New York and saying something like "this is what your team is going to look like after we finish with them." Absolutely moronic. Congratulations, Seattle. A few idiot fans have now spoken for your entire fan base.

No crap. If we all had a nickle for every dumb thing we've read on the internet, we could come up with that $700B for the bail out.

I am very glad it wasn't one of us that did this and got national news coverage. We keep our stupidity in house! *cough* mcbee *cough*

Gold Jacket, greeen jacket, who gives a sh*t.

For what it's worth, I know a lot of Seahawks fans and this guy "Mason" is not what they are all like. From the Seahawks boards I've read, most of them would like to kick this guys @$$ themselves.

What an idiot...

It will interesting to see if the national media (FSPN, Fox, NBC, CBS) touch this story. Being based in NY I think it will touch a nerve with them. Hopefully they will roast the posters and force the Seahawks to act. As Florio pointed out on PFT, the team has copyrights on the name and so has some leverage in the matter. You would think that a moderator would act to prevent such crap. While it may be constitutionally protected, it is in extremely poor taste, especially here on the East Coast where many have some connection to the events of that day. Maybe not on the Starbucks-sipping, grunge-loving West coast, but here it is still very much not forgotten.

Seems like there is a huge drug problem in Seattle.

I'm kind of surprised his nonsense stayed up long enough to be noticed by anyone but the board's moderators. Anyone know if it was removed and if so, how quickly?

People who get offended by people whose only intention is to offend are weak minded.

Using your logic, those who are offended by racist or bigoted postings are weak minded??? I don't think so. A reasonable person can find a posting or a statement to be offensive and in poor taste without being "weak minded" even if the person making the statement is only trying to offend.

That's not my logic. Racist and bigoted remarks are offensive when the person saying them believes them to be true. That's why I said "people whose only intention is to offend."

So if they try to offend, say something offensive and the listener/reader is offended, then the recipient is weak minded????
Sorry but in mind, the small-minded person is the one trying to offend. Here, the posters are trying to be 'funny' but there are some subjects that are off limits to humor, 9/11, slavery, Holocaust, pedophilia. I am the last person to ever be called politically correct but some things just aren't funny or topics for humor.

Very insightful. Because the people who suffered through 9/11 and lost lives (given the ripple effect of tragedies, that would include friends, families and relatives) are weak minded and need to hear this crap raised unnecessarily?

I will assume you are either kidding or have never left your closet, served in the military or suffered a personal tragedy to make such a ridiculous observation. Strong-minded individuals protect those who have taken a beating in life and get offended on their behalf. With all due deference to you, Lord Vader, and your deep understanding of the dark side of the force.
