Too good to not get a QB

Nothing is free but get a veteran QB here.

Yes BB is such a fool and ignorant of NFL realities by insisting that a vet is not a viable option. What does he know? He foolishly insists that it takes at least a full training camp to learn the Pats offense. Idiot. He claims that a vet would cause us to limit the O to 20% of the plays. Cretin. He sets his criteria for QBs (studying film, decision making, reading defenses and other boring stuff) that disqualifies fanboy favs like Culpepper. Moron.

What position does Brady play on defense? If Tom had played today, the Patriots would still have lost. I would have liked some calls for throwing the ball downfield and also to use Matt's running ability ( just enough to keep the defense honest).

1)Good call on the use of his running ability. Although he is not the fastest, I've been impressed with his shiftiness when he's run in the past. Anything to move the chains.

2)I think they might have called some deeper passes but the OL allowed no time for them to develop (mostly speculation, but they MUST have called some, right???)

no one is going to trade us a qb for free

no matter who we get this O-line has troubles it needs to straighten out
you have a extra 2nd round 09 draft pick, but is there really any qb out there worth THAT? i doubt it

Isn't the real question whether it is worth a 2nd round draft choice to greatly improve our chances of getting to the Super Bowl and have insurance so that Brady's will not be pressured in his rehab early next year. So, GIVEN OUR CIRCUMSTANCES, I think Garcia is easily worth a second. If we had a much weaker team, I wouldn't have the same opinion.

Cassel is doing fine. The trouble is you are expecting Tom Brady. He basically won two games and lost one. panicking .

Cassuck is FINE? hardly. How did he win 2 games? 1 TD+ 2 or 3 field goals?
With this kind of performance, you will never win a division title. You can also forget about play off.

Moss and Welker are not used probably by cassuck. You can't expect D to help you win the game when CASSUCK really sucks.

No QB is going to make a difference if he spends half the game on his ass because the OL can't protect him. Face it, our OL sucks, they were made to look good by a HOF QB like Brady. Anything less than that and their warts start to show.

For what its worth I agree with you. Its a long season and we are 2 - 1. Garcia would be a perfect fit here. I know he does not know the playbook but the guys who do know the playbook don't have the talent to run it.

Garcia is more then enough. The guy will have the weapons here and has an arm to get it to Moss and throw beyond 15 yards. The guy can scramble also for his age,.

Garcia easily would have put up 250 yards or more today.

I'm not ready to give up on Cassel just yet but given the "inconsistency" of our OL it wouldn't hurt to have a little insurance on the bench. Cassel could get nailed then we have O'Connell who I really like but he's still a rookie. Again, with our OL issues every team in the league will OWN O'C and take complete advantage of his rookieness just like Miami blasted Matt.

We need to do something about that OL before anything else. jmho. It's not just the QB anyway-how many times did Brady himself get sacked last Feb?

Unless that OL gets fixed we'll need a few backup QB's hanging around just in case...Troy Brown was once our emergency QB

probably a 4th

Didn't get a chance to watch yesterdays game (thank god) as we were stuck with the Bills broadcast, but from what I garnered on post game shows and hi-lites is this.
The Patriots dink and dunk, short pass, run game works when you have Brady in because the deep threat is always there. Teams have to respect the big play.
If Cassels is just going to hand off or throw short routes and not stretch the defense, the dink and dunk game will not work and the Pats will not score enough to win many games.

So, either they show more confidence in Cassel and open up the playbook, or they have to make a decision that he is not the guy to get the job done and bring in another QB.

The OL is no worse than many QB have won playing behind. We have three pro-bowlers.

I doubt we would have to give that up, supposedly Tampa Bay would take very little for him. Anyone talking about a #2 is nuts.

I strongly agree that yesterday's defeat can not be laid at Cassel's feet. He was okay, and would have been better if he'd had a few more possessions. I would like him to throw longer, but that depends on the offensive line and the play calling, not on Cassel.

The problem was the defense. It was listless and bored. It did not come to win the game. Or, rather, it came thinking the game was won, that Miami was just going to lie down and die.

The defense against the run was embarrassing, but pass defense was even worse. Pennington is a smart quarterback, with notable accuracy, but our defense made him look like, well, Tom Brady.

We don't need one of the mediocre and nearing-retirement quarterbacks who are still on the market today. Maybe Garcia would do better than Cassel, but if he can't play cornerback, offensive tackle or linebacker, he's not going to help us win.

I think the Patriots, some of them, had prepared themselves to lose yesterday. There was no fight, no pride, no determination. Perhaps they would have played with more energy if Brady had been under center, but Cassel cannot be blamed for their failures.

You guys are absolutely right, we need to get Cassel off the D line and bring in someone who can stop runs. And while we're at it lets trade for some secondary help to replace those bums Cassel and Cassel, and that linebacker guy what's his name? Cassel I think? Yeah he needs to go.

I agree, the D was the problem yesterday. But I started this topic to look past the forest and see the trees.

Cassel has not shown that he can handle the pressure. May he in the future? Sure, why not. But, my point is why risk it? This team is far too talented to not look at all possibilities.

Perhaps BB knows this is a work in progress and wants to go with what we have. But if a Garcia is there for the taking, he would be a nice stopgap til 12 comes back.

Has Peyton Manning shown that he can handle the pressure this year? Perhaps Indianapolis should trade for Garcia?
