Mayo + Crable > Vernon Gholston?

Gholston has a fallback in the entertainment business doing some revivalist film...

"Assuming that the Jets had no equitable offers to trade down, there was no other choice to take besideds Ghoulston."

I don't believe this for one second. When you sign a Calvin Pace to be your "pass rushing OLB" for big time cake and you know you already have a guy in Thomas who is much more than adequate on the other side, you do everything in your power to trade down and add legitmate youthful quality depth to your roster if you see a Chris Long, Darren McFadden and Dorsey off the board, just like the Pats had done in addition to dealing for SD's 2nd round pick in 09. Instead Mangini panicked and worried himself sick that Gholston would be taken by BB, so he made the classic, let's take him to keep him from wearing blue and silver even though the more prudent thing would be to take a Brandon Albert, Leodis McKelvin or a Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (all via a tradedown) to pair up with Revis AND add additional late 2's or 3rd round picks in the process. Right now it's looking like a major, major blunder on Mangini's part.

First off its Tangini/Manenbaum making the decisions.

I hear you loud and clear about trading down, and largely agree that is why isaid assuming that the Jets could not equitably trade down. And I have to assume they didn't have a offer better then holding to #6 and if that is the case then the best pick available was Ghost.

We had no issues trading down from 7, not sure why Tangini would have had any kind of issues dealing down from 6. It's like I said, I can't buy it, I think they definately had legit "deal-down" offers and chose to turn them down simply because of their fear of the deal-up party not taking Gholston and Ghost falling to us. That is my opinion and I say that because our phone was ringing off the hook for the 7th pick.

OK, you make total sense and I agree in that I wish the Jets had traded down. Jets are at that point in a total rebuild mode, more picks more better.

That said my only talking point would be, if you had to pick at #6, and McFadden and Jake Long are gone, Ghoulston was the clear and only choice for the Jets.

IMHO

It may not be common knowledge, but it said on the ESPN draft day ticker that the Patriots tried to trade down again from 11(?) but could not find any takers...as per the Boston Globe.

Some draft evaluations said the Pats reached on Mayo. Could it be they thought he would be available later?

They are often accused of reaching on a player, but better to get your guy than trying to be too cute and missing out.
