Why doesn't BB use the 4-3 more often like he used to?

Throw Jarvis Green in as a DE and experiment with Vrabel/Crable, Bruschi, and AD in the LB corps with Warren and Wilfork in the middle and Seymour at the other end? We used to run the 4-3 more often than we do now going back to last year. One of the more famous times in '07 that we used it and it worked to perfection was v.s. the Colts where Green got pressure on Manning causing a turnover to end the game. It's sort of a hypothetical question as to whether or not we should employ it more often than we do since I know that none of you are actually BB.

No, he never really ran the 4-3 that much.

Meh, not exactly. It was more of a nickel with a 4-3 style line instead of the traditional nickel pass-rush line with Vrabel and Thomas.

Belichick ran the 4-3 in 2001 out of neccessity because he didn't have the personnel in place. He does use the 4-3 a fair amount now, but last night shows that the 4-3 doesn't help put pressure on the QB or hide deficiencies in the secondary.

The alternative explanation is that our defensive coaches and front seven all-pros haven't figured out how to get pressure on the quarterback with a 3-4 or a 4-3.

The reality is that our defensive front seven have NOT been doing their job.
Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Green, Vrabel, Thomas, Bruschi, Mayo

How is possible that this is not enough talent to perform acceptably?

looks like the d was in a 4-3 when they were getting burnt with no pressure up the middle

I am beginning to wonder if there is no pressure by design. The front seven seems eerily like 2005 in that aspect. I wonder with Mayo being new that they are playing it safe and not letting the LBs shoot the gaps. In 2005, it was literally like a flip of switch in the KC game where they went from a passive defense to an agressive defense that put pressure on the opposing QBs for the rest of the season.

LOL, I guess I'm just looking for something (ANYTHING) that would allow us to put more pressure on the QB.
