DT
Wilfork and Kelly are both on their way out. Might be both of their last years with the Pats.
So, you would have us carry seven DT's? Perhaps you think that Siliga, Chris Jones and Armstead will be cut?
I don't think its crazy to think that at least 1 of Jones, Siliga or Armstead don't make the roster. I also think if you plan on carrying 6 DT's for the season you can't afford to go into camp with just 6 quality players at the position because injuries are inevitable, especially with Wilfork and Kelly both getting older and coming off major injuries. If having to cut a quality player is the worst thing about double dipping at DT then I will happily take it.
I say we draft both a Y (Gronk-like) and F (Hernandez-like).
I'd also add that all of Wilfork, Armstead, and Kelly are coming off of some serious injuries, so it's certainly not a lock that ALL 3 contribute as much as we hope, even though 2/3 seems to be reasonable. As someone else has pointed out, there's also the reality that none of them are locks to be on the team next year for 2015 too.
Of course, I believe that Bill Belichick has stated that he sees Armstead as primarily a DE--although I may be incorrect just the same. I thought that I had remembered us talking about in the past, with Belichick stating that he sees Armstead cut out for the position of DE when reporters asked him about it several times.
The fact that we should expect additional competition at DT with Joe Vellano and Chris Jones shouldn't exactly be a head scratcher. Those 2 (or at least ONE of them for sure) will need to earn their jobs to beat out hopefully better competition that should be coming in. Like any other position, the object will be to add a bunch of players and see who sticks; not only now, but for the future as well.
Offensive line. The draftees are there. Take them.
I would enjoy a draft that has a minimum of 2 DL and 2 OL.
