Now don't get me wrong, losing to one of our biggest rivals is upsetting. But the amount of panic I have seen since is simply not warranted. Here are my top reasons:
1. We beat the crap out of the Steelers last year, but they are the ones that went to the Super Bowl. I am ok with the situation being reversed this year.
2. We have all the necessary pieces to go deep into the playoffs. Yes even a decent pass defense. There is no question that this is the weakness of the team, but there is plenty of talent and time to fix the issues. Our defense does not play well together, but again this is fixable. There are much bigger problems a team can have than having a weak pass D in week 8 of the season.
3. Along with my last point, name me 1 Super Bowl champion this decade that did not have a clear weakness? We can pass the ball, we can run the ball, the can stop the run, and we are even starting to develop a little bit of a pass rush.
4. The goal of a football team is to peak in January-February, NOT in October. In the grand scheme of the NFL season, it doesn't really matter how you play until December. (provided you are still in the Playoff race, which I still think we will be) Every year there is one or two teams that look unbeatable in October, but come the playoffs they fizzle. (see Falcons, Colts, and the infamous 2007 Patriots)
5. Lots of injuries=Lots of changes=Lots of Volatility. If this team get healthy by the end of November, and there are sign that we are headed in that direction, I have full confidence that we will be a force to be decking with.
