He just blew a save tonight, and he had a two run lead. Any opinions??

That is uncharacteristic of him, but he can't save them all. Hopefully he will bounce back and get the save next time.

It happens...he blew 6 saves last seasons, and he will likely blow that many this season. You can't save them all.

The April the pen had was remarkable. I'm OK with completely ignoring tonight altogether.

you are kidding correct? it was a BS, 1ST Blown Save IN 9 CHANCES IF HE GOES 40 FOR 45 THIS YEAR WE WOULD ALL BE HAPPY

Here's a newsflash.........he's human! One blown save where he missed on an 0-2 pitch, settle down:cool:

He blew a lot of saves last season, so doing the same this year shouldn't be unexpected. The only uncharacteristic thing about it was his inability to control his emotions afterwards when he threw a temper tantrum in the dugout and punched a watercooler. Thats something you see guys like Julian Tavarez do, you'd hope your closer would be above that.

But I have noticed that he has been letting runners on base more then he used to (I know he is human) but he has also been walking them on.

His season walks+hits/inning pitched ratio is 1.05. His career WHIP ratio is 1.01

None of the top 10 closers in Baseball history have a lower career WHIP, although many have had extended streaks performing better according to baseball stats.com. Keep in mind that few of the guys on that list were exclusively closers or even exclusively relievers throughout their careers though.

He did have a perfect WHIP ratio for his first three save opportunities; but that's not a fair standard to hold him to.

His WHIP is low because hes allowed so few hits, but his walk rate is alarmingly higher than it should be. It hasn't been that much of an issue because his H/9 and K/9 have been much better than last year, but after walking only 13 hitters last season (for a 1.71 BB/9) hes already walked 6 this season (for a 5.23 BB/9).

His performance has still been fine, but his control has been atrocious this season. Hopefully that is in no way related to his shoulder.
