I am usually very pessimistic when it comes to the Pats going after big name players in free agency or in trade scenarios. However, I am starting to wonder if there is something to the unsubstantiated rumors of the Pats being in the mix for this guy. Didn't Michael Holley or someone else on WEEI claim the Pats would make a play for Jackson this past offseason? Whoever it was claimed BB was extremely high on him as a player and person. I know he has the DUI issue, but in all of his interviews he seems like a stand up guy.

Also, there seems to always be a mention of another team in the running for Jackson other than the Vikings. Because there is no mention of the other team, it leads me to think it's obviously a very "keep everything under wraps" team. Who's more secretive than the Pats? Who has more ammo to trade than the Pats? If it is between the Vikings and the Pats, from Jackson's perspective who has the better QB situation, now and moving forward? The Pats need a long term answer at WR, and Jackson seems to fit their needs perfectly. I know it's a long shot, but for some reason I do believe the Pats could be "the other team in the running" that has been talked about.

I love the idea, but he's going to cost too much in terms of draft picks. The Vikings reportedly offered a 2nd and got turned down. If the defense looked near championship caliber, I'd say go for it. As it stands I don't see the addition of Jackson improving the team enough to justify the steep asking price.

Perhaps the Pats make a free agency push for Jackson. He'll likely cost less than the $9M annually that Moss earns.

Don't expect them to be doing anything other than driving the price up on Jackson to make it harder for Minnesota. On paper it looks like a great move to bring Jackson in as the #2, but Brady shouldn't need a receiving/TE group THAT stacked to be able to score points in the 2nd half. The Patriots just made him the highest paid player in the NFL because he's gone on playoff runs with patchwork receivers, it's time for Brady to start earning that extension, not for them to lock up more cap space in a passing offense that can't score in the 2nd half. The draft picks/salary they'd use on Jackson would make a lot more sense to address a defense that actually does lack talent.

I don't think its going to come down to the asking price of SD but rather what Jackson might want. Id give up our first for Jackson if I were the Pats and I was thinking 1st round receiver next spring.

They will probably be looking for something similar to what the Dolphins gave for Brandon Marshall, which was 2 2nd round draft picks. I don't want to give up 2 2nd round picks for a receiver. I would for a good pass rusher.

VJ is the real deal. Salary Cap wise...... can we afford such a hit w/ the uncertain status of the CBA?

I like him but I'd rather spend Moss's money on an OLB/DE. I think we're better off with the smurf strategy in the passing game and investing more into the defense.

Why would the Pats trade two second round picks for Vincent Jackson? Don't you know those two second rounders are three third rounders and a fourth rounder in 2011 and a second in 2012?

I don't think WR is the greatest need right now (as compared to RB, OLB, and CB).

I say its not even a close possibility

The last thing Brady and Belichick want is to piss Randy off by adding another elite WR and Randy pouting about not only getting less reps but knowing Vincent will be his replacement and little chance the Pats retain Moss in 2011.

No way on God's green earth will the Pats touch a WR right now...next year different issue

Trading for a RB,OLB or CB is a slight possibility at best

I didn't say they were going to do that... I said that the price for VJ would be most likely 2 2nd round picks SIMILAR TO WHAT WAS GIVEN FOR BRANDON MARSHALL.

It's possible the Pats offer our 2011 1st rounder, given that we have Oakland's and our own. The guy's a stud, and sets us up for life without Randy. Or possibly one of our 2nd's plus something additional.

As far as this year, a #1 like Moss knows that another #1 is only going to open the field up for him. Randy's a little temperamental but he's going all out this year so it wouldn't affect his play. May be a little uncomfortable for everyone but they're all professionals making big money.

I would not give them our first rounder for 2011.I want defensive players.

The Chargers board is all convinced that the comp will be two 2nd's, or possibly a 2nd and a 3rd. There was also a rumor that Shanahan has gotten involved.

Redskins haven't looked too bad with McNabb, imagine with a decent WR!

The Chargers are asking for a 2nd and 3rd in next year's draft. The Vikings offered a 2nd and a conditional pick that would get exercised if they could sign Jackson long term. I'd probably do it for a 2nd and a 4th.

"The San Diego Chargers have been offered a second-round pick and a conditional pick in 2011 by the Minnesota Vikings for wide receiver Vincent Jackson, three sources said Tuesday, but that deal looks dead because the Chargers have asked for a second- and third-round pick for 2011. The Vikings, who are willing to sign Jackson to a one-year deal worth approximately $6 million, would throw in the conditional pick for the Pro Bowl receiver if they signed him to a long-term contract. Jackson would replace wide receiver Sidney Rice, who will miss at least the first half of the season after hip surgery in training camp. The Chargers are asking for the second- and third-rounders based on the price"

UH....Thier Moss is doing better so far than OUR Moss

Santana 166 yards in 2 games
Randy 97 yards in 2 games

Santana is good now that he has a real QB

    1) This trade would disenfranchise Moss terribly.
    2) we don't need another receiver this year.
    3) next year we can resign Moss or get a new guy, via FA or the deepest WR class in a long time
    and most importantly...
We need to save our premium picks for the o-line and the front 7!

The bottom line is that such a trade would not help us win now, and without the picks to beef up the lines and LB corps, it won't help us win later either.
