Going for it on 4th & 13 in SB42 was pretty gutsy.
I'm at work. How badly did BB get hammered by the commentators for 4th and 2?
i dont know how BB refusing to take a knee with a young QB and not playing for overtime in SB36 is not on the list..
How can that not be near he top?
on NFL network....
strange list so far.
BB's 4th and 2 is #10 but colts pulling the starters vs the jets is #7 ?
coughlin was mentioned as best of the rest for the final 2007 game. That is one of the most gut-less calls I've seen. How can anyone argue otherwise? The players themselves were publicly upset at Polian and Caldwell for sandbagging their run at perfection. It didn't even make any sense. I can understand benching your starters to prevent injuries, but this was a game they already had in the pocket, late in the third quarter, and that they blew on purpose to avoid any kind of pressure.
Where was Sean Payton's onside kick call? That is the only one I can think of that deserves top-10 of all-time. It took balls.
Other calls I can think of:
Belichick game plans Giants vs. Bills: they will win if Thurman Thomas rushes for 100 yards. Awesome.
Coughlin AND Belichick deserve a mention for the 2007 finale, in which both teams duked it out instead of resting players, despite no playoff implications.
I haven't seen the show to hear how they framed this argument, but isn't intentionally losing a game the opposite of a gutsy call?
Controversial? Sure, but when I hear "gutsy" I think about a team/player/coach taking a risk or doing something bold. Losing on purpose doesn't really fit that criteria.
kinda balanced. most people said gutsy and that him having a SB ring made him safe to make the call. one guy called it the worst call in the history of the game.
The game in Denver where BB allowed the safety should be at the top of that list,or its a lame list. How many coaches would or could do that???
I guess we could do our Gutsiest Calls of the Belichick Era. I'll start with the safety v Broncos. Plus, you know, Brady over Bledsoe.
