As reported by Tomase. $24 million of that money in the first 3 years.

What's interesting about this deal is that it appears to be more front loaded. Like the deals the Eagles typically sign, there are no phony years. It will not be cap crippling 3-4 seasons down the road.

What also strikes me is how little Thomas signed for. People here were speculating $10 a year, and it was just assumed. It seems we signed him for a very resonable price, given the market.

Must have really wanted to come here.

Michael Smith was on ESPNEWS and said that AD took less to play with the pats (ala colvin and harrison in 03) because he wanted to play for a great defense, great coaches, and a chance to win every year! I guess if this is like 03 we can get ready for back to back rings:D

Not just that, but with both the Thomas deal and the impending deal for Welker being so much less than initially expected, than we have some extra cash to make one more big move.

The Patriots are in excellent cap shape. We can upgrade our team without mortgaging the future. This is an insanely good thing.

Too often folks focus only on this year's cap. The Patriots will be on the right side of the salary cap for many years to come.

In contrast, teams like Indy, who have deliberately defered their cap hits, will have to struggle with the cap for many years to come.

Nice contract for both team and player if true

If Thomas lives up to expectations, that is an awesome deal for the Pats.

So much for the theory that the Pats breaking the bank will piss off the rest of the locker room

Well, its not front loaded too much if the average 5 year amount is $7.5 million but he's getting $8 million a year for the first three years.

Seems like a fair deal for both the team and player. $8 mil a year won't break the bank and is more than worth it for one guy who can play 5 positions - and play them well.

Factor in a salary or two, not to mention a roster spot, saved by AD and you'll begin to see the additional value.
