Man, it would be so funny if Luck took a look at the Colts and decided they don't know what they are doing and dug his heels in.

Imagine if he said he wouldn't play for the Colts! That would be gold, Jerry.

The situation he is walking into is not exactly ideal. They are jettisoning all the players and he is following Manning, who is so beloved that many Indy fans are still frothing at the mouth over his departure.

Luck better hope the combination of his last name and the whole horseshoe thing is enough, because damn.

I predict Daniel Snyder secretly wires $25M into Mr. Luck's bank account through several offshore sources to convince him to pull an Elway.

What's weird is that over at extremeskins some posters mentioned that possibililty as if it were a bad thing. Hello? Isn't Luck considered better than RG3 or am I hopelessly behind on the ins and outs of the draft?

You know, I wouldnt want to follow in Mannings foot steps if I were Luck.

Every move he makes will be compared to Manning. Just like when Elway retired in Denver.

i think that would be horrible

i thought the same about elway and eli when they did it

no player is bigger than the game, and those guys thought they were

of course they did both get multiple superbowl rings, even though it took elway over 15 years, so there's that for luck to think about, i guess

Its really debatable if Luck is better than RG.

Luck is more of a pocket passer like Manning and Brady and RG is like Vick. but with a better arm and accuracy.

RG has turned some heads and could very well turn out to be the best QB in this draft.

Ok, that is good to know. And interesting too. I wonder if the Colts have considered RG3 instead of Luck?

If by "pocket passer" you mean he can match Cam Newton's 40-time (4.59s) and has made several dramatic plays running and catching the football during his college career, then I agree. ;)

Outwardly, they haveā€¦but I think Luck has been penciled in as the #1 pick for over 24months now. If he does not pan out, most well shake their heads and say the Colts got unlucky. (no pun-inteded).
If they draft RG3 and Luck becomes a star, Irsay and the Colts would be ridiculed more than Portland for drafting Bowie over Jordan.

I just keep having flashbacks to Bledsoe/Mirer.

It's fortunate the Pats got lucky in the sixth round. So much scrutiny for these tops picks, so much of a price to pay and there are no guarantees. You pretty much always look good when your sixth rounder becomes the GOAT but when the number one overall pick does, there was already an expectation.

RG is more the mobile QB and its not even up for debate. RG has more than twice the rushing yards of Luck and 33 rushing TDs compared to Lucks 7 rushing TDs. RG completed 74% of his passes this past season too - 37 TDs and 6 INTs. At one point of the 2011 season, RG had more INTs than incompletion's.

It remains to be seen if RG can bring his style play to the NFL and be as effective, but many speculate that RG will be what Vick was supposed to be. Mayock for one and I respect his opinion like it was gospel.

The one thing that RG aready has going for him over Vick is that he appears to be a well-grounded and intelligent kid. He was raised by two Army parents having traveled afar and graduating with a 3.67 GPA from Baylor with a degree in political science and currently pursuing a masters in communication.

I don't think there is any doubt that RGIII is the more athletic and more mobile QB. But I think PittPatriot's point was its not really fair to simply label Luck as a pocket QB, because he is much more mobile and athletic than that. While his ability in the pocket may be comparable to Brady and Manning (although nowhere near their level yet), his ability outside the pocket is light years ahead of both of them.

I think that's the understatement of the year. The guy is walking into an absolutely impossible situation.

It would be bad enough if Manning was simply retiring and Luck had to be the guy that replaced him. But what has actually happened is the Colts essentially had to make a choice between Manning and Luck and they chose Luck. So now any future success Manning has is going to be thrown in Luck's face every single week.

RG3 had the better season (and deserved the Heisman) but Luck is still seen by most as the better pro prospect. However, that belief is not quite as solid now as it was 6 months ago.

The funnier situation now would be Colts get bad vibe from Luck, pick RG3, then Luck pulls an Elway/Eli on the Redskins.

That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, if Luck doesn't live up to the hype. They'd get alot in return for that #1 pick. But if Luck turns out to be the real deal, yeah that'd be hilarious.

Well,it may have been the wrong thing to do to those teams that drafted them, but look at the two QBs that did it....Eli and Elway with a combined 4 Super Bowl Championships and 4 rings with 2 for each of them.

They made the right choices......it is unlikely SD wins a SB or the Baltimore Colts win one let alone 2 had they stayed on their teams that originally drafted them.

And another ring or maybe more could be heading Eli's way before he retires,Eli has come a long way out from under his brother's shadow and is definitely in or at least heading towards Elite status.
