Re: Cassel vs. Brady pros and cons

my point is just that you could really see a pretty damn stacked Pats team with the value you'd get for Brady, and if Cassell performs well in the playoffs this year you're going to have a serious controversy on your hands.

Interesting point.

Re: Cassel vs. Brady pros and cons

Tell me what Cassel would have accomplished in 2006 with Reche Caldwell,Jabar Gaffney and a 35 year old Troy Brown as your 3 main WRs?

Not much at all you say?

Case closed - Brady is not going anywhere

Didn't you also predict there was no way Cassel would make the team?

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

could it be because he's played like one game, compared to there like 50,000 games? Duh..this a stupid comparison.

anyway, yea, this place is getting hard to bare with all these threads about brady and cassel.

Just think about if for a second......HE'S TOM BRADY!

WTF are you talking about?

That's PRECISELY what I was getting at.

Duh.

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

In a small way, it's flattering. It means Cassel is playing so well that there is this type of discussion to begin with, and that's a good thing in itself. But that's about it. The idea of letting Brady go is absurd.

Cassel Like Brady is no Ordinary QB

The best moment in yesterdays game for me, besides the win, was the 4th and short and the Pats went for it with a QB sneak.

A quick snap and MC fights for six yds carrying defenders on his back, then gets up bumps helmets with a Dolphin defender and shoulders his way thru the linebackers back too the Pat's huddle.

TB and MC both have the personality and competitiveness of linebackers, they are not just tough they are in your face tough. I do love this aspect of their play which i think really sets them apart from other modern QB's and has more in common with a bygone era of great, tough as nails QB's, who led not just with their arms with with every aspect of their beings.

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

if this is our worst problem then give me break

I think it's alright to talk about it.

but our defense is equally pressing

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

There is no question except on the blogosphere, this board and talk radio...

First and foremost, welcome back Darryl.
I don't see the threads which debate Cassell vs Brady as a starter, maybe someone could link one. As far as the Cassell sucks links, there are many of them, none of which bear my name. Nor will you find my name on the Brady can't throw deep threads which populated this board a few years back, along with a few other negative ones concerning Brady.
My whole point of contention is, what would Brady produce in a trade.
On the whole, the responses are irrational or inflammatory. If you believe that Brady is untouchable, fine, but that doesn't mean BB shares your opinion.

Re: Cassel Like Brady is no Ordinary QB

Tough to disagree, he seems to have a little something extra. It can't have been easy to have to step in and replace TOM BRADY but he did it largely without a hitch. The big things to me are 1) what you are saying, that he doesn't back away from a challenge and 2) he throws very few scary passes. I can think of 2-3 passes that could have been picked off that weren't. All season, that's it. He's been accurate, thrown well on the run and made few mistakes.

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

I think "Cassel/Brady" is a good problem to have. It's exciting, c'mon. This is San Francisco all over again whether you like it or not. Not many teams in the NFL have this much excitement going on outside the hashmarks.

Is there a more exciting 7-4 team in NFL history than the 08 New England Patriots? Regardless of what happens the rest of the way, it's been a rollercoaster thrill watching Patriots football in 2008. Never a dull moment. You can bet Pittsburgh is scared to death that their wild card matchup could be against NE.

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

I agree with OP. Comparing up and coming Cassel to HOF Brady is bit stretching. I'm glad Cassel is improving every week and Pats are kicking butt once again but there have been plenty of one year wonder QBs in NFL(Derek Anderson being latest example). I say do whatever it takes to tie him up and hopefully get few picks out of him.

Re: Cassel vs. Brady pros and cons

For what it is worth i think BB will never trade TB unless TB wants to be traded. More then anyone else TB is the face of this dynasty and BB has been down this road before with a much lesser talent and the fans in Cleveland still hate him with an over whelming psychotic passion.

NE fans will be no different if BB now trades TB and the fans of NE will will have many more facts on their side then the Cleveland fans have. TB is not just a local legend he is a national legend on par with Montana.

Why would TB want to be traded because at some point TB has to retire or become a backup just like Montana did.

At that point in his career TB may choose to start for another team rather then stand on the sidelines. But until that point the Pats are TB's team and when ever he is physically able he will be the starter.

Re: Cassel vs. Brady pros and cons

Bob Ryan just said on ATH that only stupid bloggers are saying the Patriots are talking about signing Cassel. I don't know if he was referring to those who believe he should supplant Brady or those who think he should be franchised then traded.

Re: Cassel vs. Brady pros and cons

haha yeah i'm kind of curious to know how many people who are the most harsh about shutting down these conversations were also predicting that Cassell would fall on his face.

Re: Cassel vs. Brady pros and cons

This would be called....an uh-oh.

Whereas, I always thought Cassel'd be good if given a chance. :D

But to the point...

It HAS to at least be CONSIDERED.

If someone makes you the 'Herschel Walker' trade, you've got to give it SERIOUS consideration.

This team is proving RIGHT NOW that it can win without Tom. Cassel's what...at least five to six years younger.

Belichick and Pioli gambled six years ago that Tom would be more than a one year wonder and traded a somewhat dependable 30something Bledsoe.

I'm just saying there is a little bit of a precedent here, I'm not saying they should or shouldn't.

But I am saying this team will not have their hands over their ears if a blockbuster deal came along.

Re: Cassel Like Brady is no Ordinary QB

The thread starter tells it like it is, not over inflating, but giving him is due. There's a reason BB kept him as the primary backup for three years, only bringing in veterans for the other backup spot. The truth of the matter is this: If the QBs that prevented you from being a starter were Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart and Tom Brady, then maybe you're not a garden variety QB.

To be fair, Flutie was #2, but Testaverde was #3.

Can Cassel

Go 400 yards against the steelers or anyone else this season?

What do you guys think.

Re: Can Cassel

can he, yes. Will he? Your crystal ball is just like my crystal ball.

The Official Cassel vs Brady thread

Again, this is the official comparing Cassel against Brady thread. We don't need 10 or more of them. This is the only thread to make these comparisons. If you start a new one, it will be deleted. If you try and start a similar thread that might not exactly be a comparison but more or less is, then you are clearly trying to insult everyone's intelligence in here and will be penalized. As mentioned we don't need the main forum cluttered with these. So please post any comparison, analysis, etc. in this thread.
