Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

I'm still finding it hard to believe that anyone is really taking it seriously

Then again somebody essentially accused me of being some kind of Brady fanboy, so maybe I shouldn't make assumptions about the board.

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

not yet, but since ppl seem to keep wanting to make threads about it (including this one) i soon will be

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

I am, I wanted to see a consensus of how many of you are honestly contemplating who should be our full time starter next year.

This is getting ridiculous.

Not a bad idea, but I would have liked to see it done without value judgments in the first post - leading the witness and all.

I was going to start a thread/poll similar to this ya beat me to the punch. This talk is indeed getting absurd

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

I still think it's ludicrous at this stage, but when the offense resembles last year's pinball machine, it's inevitable.

BTW, don't turn on 'EEI if you don't want to hear about this subject!

3.) Heck no!, this is a wonderful problem we have!

The Pats finally struck gold in their QB projects.

They will tag Cassel, keep him if necessary, and, if he continues his great play right into the playoffs, Cassel just might command 2 #1s for the right to sign him from the Pats.

So, I say let the Cassel/Brady talk reverberate throughout the NFL. It's only going to increase Cassel's market value.

I agree. When Brady went down, if you told me that by week 12/13 people would be making threads about possibly trading Brady, no matter how far fetched they are, I would either say you must be lying or I would say that's better than anything I could have expected out of Cassel this year.

Besides, I just don't let stuff like that work me up so much. Some of you really need to relax.

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

The thing most people underestimate is a QBs ability to stay healthy.

Cassel has absolutely no track record when it comes to this aspect of the position.

Brady does.

So does Manning.

You know that they can handle themselves so well in the pocket that they are only injured once every seven years.

With Cassel, we just don't know. So people who are takin Cassel on the assumption he'll be healthier than Brady are dismissing one huge part of the equation, especially since Cassel likes to run the ball.

Re: Cassel vs. Brady pros and cons

There is a huge dropoff from Brady to Cassell in terms of productivity and talent. The only thing bigger than that dropoff is the incredible value that you'd get for him out of a trade. Think two 1sts and a young starting defensive player. If you went to San Francisco and said, give me Patrick Willis and your next two first round picks, they'd have a serious chat about it. At that point you're talking about building another dynasty, guys. Are you that attached to Brady that you wouldn't want to see a team chock full of young stars that will contend not just for four more years, but for ten?
This is the key to any discussion --- what is the pay-back? Does any deal put the Patriots into a higher probability of being damn good for a damn long time? If the trade is multiple 1st and 2nd round picks PLUS one or more YOUNG Pro-Bowl level players at a position of need than entertaining the option of trading EITHER Brady or Cassel has to be done. Hershchel Walker has been brought up elsewhere in this thread, and he was the core identity of that Dallas team. However his trade brought the 'Boys the talent base for their early 90s Super Bowl run. IF the Pats can get that type of draft and player ammo for one of their two legit starting quarterbacks, then that is the smart decision.

I haven't been on the boards much this year. I've been really down since SB42. But I've been watching the all the games and seeing Cassel handle pressure like he did yesterday, really gave me confidence.

IMO, the Pass D is the only thing standing between the Pats and 4th SBC.

Re: Cassel vs. Brady pros and cons

This kind of response is exhibit A of why a great poster like PatJew just quit coming here. Just because someone says something you don't like doesn't make him an idiot. Respect your fellow posters, dude.

actually, if you read his post he said "call me an idiot, or whatever" so thats why i said that. Thanks though thread police, i will try harder.

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

There is no question except on the blogosphere, this board and talk radio...

could it be because he's played like one game, compared to there like 50,000 games? Duh..this a stupid comparison.

anyway, yea, this place is getting hard to bare with all these threads about brady and cassel.

Just think about if for a second......HE'S TOM BRADY!

Re: Cassel vs. Brady pros and cons

Draft picks are only great deals for a few years anyway. At first they're rookies. Eventually, they're paid. It's only during the inbetween period that they pay off big.

For how many years was Richard Seymour a drastically underpaid great player? Ditto any other Patriot draftee? It's no longer than the period that Brady can be expected to remain an all-time great QB.

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

It is quite possible Brady has taken his last snap in the NFL. At his point we don't know.

Re: Are you downright sick of the Cassel/Brady talk already?

The reality is that even if Brady is a question mark, the answer is Kevin O'Connel, not Matt Cassel. Cassel has outplayed the possibility of staying with this team for future seasons.

It's possible I could get hit by a bus and die on the way home from work.

Re: Cassel vs. Brady pros and cons

Joe Montana was traded at age 37 after Steve Young was league MVP. I don't think this is the same situation.

And as sad as that might be for your family, it won't affect next year's team roster. Brady's health will.
