I'm on the record as being in favor of our trade for Wes Welker. But I will do a slow burn after our second pick in Round 1, when we then have to sit through 62 consecutive non-Patriots picks before we finally get to go again in late Round 3. If either of our Round 1 picks doesn't shine, it could be a below average draft year.

I expect the Pats to be fairly active draft day. Don't be suprised if the Pats make some moves than may result in a second round pick especially if they do end up trading Samuel.

At least we have three first day picks. And I think two firsts and a thrd will yield a better draft class than one first, one second and one third. Just my thought.

and think if you were the Seahawks. No first round pick.

Besides, there is always the chance we will trade back with one of our first and get a second rounder with it.

Lets not forget the fact that Welker is young. The last 2nd rounder they gave up was for Dillon. I have high hopes for that 2nd round pick.

Last year Jackson was the 2nd round pick. Welker will play a big part in the first game of 2007. Jackson did not play a big part in any game last year.

I absolutely sympathize with the sentiments. At the same time, the Pats are one team of 32. The others do have to pick, too. Having two 1sts is better than a 1st and a 2nd, yeah? But, yeah, if you watch the draft and see players you want get picked off waiting until our 3rd, it'll be a drag, fo sho.

The only thing to do is consider that we do have a second round pick and we already know what it is. It alleviates a little anxiety. We get Wes Welker. And he's a tricky little gutsy devil who runs around like a video game player.

Out of curiosity, anyone know who was picked with the pick we gave up for Dillon?

Madieu Williams, if I recall correctly. Pretty good safety.

First, Welker is part of the draft year.

Second, Seymour, Warren, Wilfork, Watson, Graham, Mankins, Maroney as a group stongly suggest that it's unlikely neither of the two #1s will contribute solidly as a rookie.

The upsides are that the first round will be a lot more interesting than normal, and then when that round's over, you can go do something else for a few hours until around the middle of the 3rd round.

The deal was a good one for the Patriots. Welker will be better than any other wide receiver taken past #60 in this draft.

So, I guess the patriots should trade down from one of the firsts so that we can better enjoy the first day of the draft, getting a late second a mid-third.

Not necessarily. There are some good mid round wide receiver prospects in this draft like Jason Hill, Courtney Taylor, Aundrae Allison, and Steve Smith. Of course there could always be another Marques Colston as well.

    #24 Jersey

if you are trying to say that it wasn't worth it to trade that 2 for corey than your nuts. his 1600 yard season was well worth it as he was key in getting us three.

and my opinion is that Welker will be more than productive enough to be worth the two...you cant look back and say who was drafted there and determine wether the trade was good off that because there is no guarentee that would have been what we took. if thats the logic than no one selected in the 2000 draft was worth anythin because you could have had Tom Brady with that pick.

You judge wether a trade was worth it by the production of the player you get not what you possibly may have selected if you kept that pick. and anyone who thinks welker wont be productive is nuts.
