On 2nd Thought, should we maybe've locked up WoodHead & Vereen when we might've?

If you had predicted Lewis' knee injury before FA began last year, that would have been awesome.

Not nearly as awesome as predicting that he'd do a damned thing in the first place, Nostradamus!!

Grid, are you suggesting that the team should have started the season with Blount, Bolden, Woodhead, Vereen, and Lewis?

If so, that would have been wonderful, and now look like an act of genius. But how might that have come together?

That's exactly what I'm suggesting.

The Offense has been crippled without BackField Talent, this Year, in 2013, and in other Years.

It's a Position where Money needs to be spent, in my Opinion.

And I've gotten a lot of **** for expressing that.

As you see.

probably should have signed bledsoe to a 15 year contract just in case, might have had him instead of cassel in 08

Yeah, that has the slightest thing to do with my point, Genius!!

I must be tired because this thread confused me. But in the interest of participation, I would have liked to sign Woodhead, I wouldn't even have wanted Vereen on a deal.

It amazes me how many people wanted to "buy low" on Vereen without any regard for his desire to be bought low. I don't remember if there were any reports of whether he was approached about an extension, but if so then he bet on himself and won. I can't blame a guy for doing that.

You're being very expansionist, to put it kindly: You're inferring Meaning that was never stated.

The entire Premise is theoretical, after all.

I don't know if anyone knows what transpired ~ or did not ~ between the Patriots and Uncanny Danny or Shifty Shane, but I'm more than willing to agree that if we couldn't get Danny for what he signed for with San Diego ~ a preposterously stupid notion, I pray we all agree ~ or if we approached Vereen a Year earlier but he played HardBall ~ though I seriously doubt he would've cost more'n 3 or 3.25 at that point ~ that we should've let'm go. This is all based on a Theoretical, as has been understood all along.

I just find it amusing that so many find it idiotic that that we should've tried to lock up WoodHead and Vereen a Year before they hit The Market ~ whether or not we actually did.

It's hilarious that I, who places less Value on HalfBack than any of you Earthlings ~ Mad Bill is One Of Ours ~ find myself, because of your Reactionary Reactions, defending Expenditure on HalfBack!!

The funniest thing, though, is how many pretend that any'f us saw Lewis as a Factor in March.

That's all right, though: Have a lovely Evening, Earthlings. I am amused.

And for what it's worth: I went with Eggs. :D

Ya Ya it's different because Vereen plays for another team that uses him differently blah blah blah

Tre Williams we have 2 open spots guessing he gets called up.

Could be for that reason.

But it might also be because you, sir, are an Over Capitalizer. ;)

About 28-30 teams would kill to have their offense crippled like the Pats' offense this year.

And the last two games, White has been as effective as a receiving threat as Vereen was last year.

And Dion Lewis is better than either Woodhead or Vereen and the Pats wouldn't have picked him up with either of those guys on the roster.

Drink much?

I think he posts threads like this when he's NOT drinking. The booze calms him. Well, as much as he can be calmed. Drink, OTG! Drink!!!

Not to tout my own horn, but I clearly remember in the 2014 offseason starting a thread advocating we extend Vereen since we'd be "buying low." It seemed we all knew he was solid but injuries had kept his market value really low. I was shocked at how many people disagreed with me, arguing that he should need to prove his durability and full-year production first. Of course, that is exactly what I said would cause him to leave, since we don't pay a lot for those guys. I was thinking maybe extending him for somewhere in the $2-2.5M range over 3-4 years and feared a good season from him would push him up to $4-5M. That's exactly what happened, unfortunately.

On the other hand, Dion Lewis was better than Vereen before the injury, and White is looking decent out there, too.

Small sample size for White, but consider these numbers:

This season White is averaging 9.5 yards per reception.

This season Vereen is averaging 8.3 yards per reception.

Last season Vereen averaged 8.6 yards per reception.

Woodhead has been better this year (10.4 yards per reception), but the two previous years he only averaged 8.0 and 6.8 yards per reception. And of course, if they kept Woodhead, they wouldn't have Vereen.

Long story short, White is demonstrating that he can be every bit as productive as Vereen and Woodhead if given the chance. Which, of course, he is now getting.

Yeah. That's what I said!! Who needs Proven Talent at HalfBack in 2015??
jester.gif

You do realize that without all that Proven Talent (TM) at halfback, the Patriots are still #3 in the NFL in scoring, and that's WITH all the injuries. Before Lewis got hurt, they were #1 in the NFL in scoring. Over the last three games the Patriots, who feel like they're stuck in the mud offensively, without Lewis and Edelman and Blount and Gronk for bits of those games, are still averaging 26.3 points a game, which would be good enough for 6th in the NFL if projected over the course of the season.

You do realize these things, don't you?
