On 2nd Thought, should we maybe've locked up WoodHead & Vereen when we might've?

Yeah, Depth of Talent is meaningless in a League where HalfBacks are constantly getting Knocked Out!!

I'm just grateful that we didn't tie up 2 Mill on WoodHead and maybe 3 on Vereen a Year before they hit The Market...otherwise, we wouldn't have all that precious Cap Space to spend on Special Teamers!!

I can't wait to hear the Responses from the Geniuses who want to pretend that anyone of us had a Clue what Lewis was going to do ~ while he was around ~ and use that to justify Bleeding The BackField Dry.

Mad Bill has no more devoted an Acolyte than me.

I've defended'm against all manner of Jamokes.

And nobody devalues HalfBack more'n I.

I've been trolling the Late Rounds and UFA's for HalfBack forever.

Nobody invests more lightly on HalfBack than I.

Not Mad Bill.

Not you.

Well...

OK.

Maybe Mad Bill.

Because...Christ...You got to have somebody with some Talent back there, boy.

Punch Line: Both White ~ a SpeedBack ~ and Bolden ~ a PowerBack ~ are Scrappers but Contender Level Talents who are Smart, incredibly Versatile, and Do Their Jobs...These two are guys we can win a Championship with. They Move The Chains. Again: We can win Championships with them.

But my GOD, they are mediocre Talents.

And I'm not gonna let that get in the way of chuckling at those'f you who gave me a load of **** for saying we should've held on to WoodHead ~ who I predicted Great Things about on this Board before he ever played a Down for us ~ or Vereen ~ who I mocked to us back in 2011 and who is badly missed, today.

Yeah, having only 4 halfbacks to play the same position was totally shortsighted. What was BB thinking???

**** happens. They'll be fine at RB.

Not to tout my own horn, but I clearly remember in the 2014 offseason starting a thread advocating we extend Vereen since we'd be "buying low." It seemed we all knew he was solid but injuries had kept his market value really low. I was shocked at how many people disagreed with me, arguing that he should need to prove his durability and full-year production first. Of course, that is exactly what I said would cause him to leave, since we don't pay a lot for those guys. I was thinking maybe extending him for somewhere in the $2-2.5M range over 3-4 years and feared a good season from him would push him up to $4-5M. That's exactly what happened, unfortunately.

On the other hand, Dion Lewis was better than Vereen before the injury, and White is looking decent out there, too.

They have since won a super bowl without woodhead. And Vereen was a one dimensional receiving back(a great one but not worth 5 mil per). White fills his role fine and Lewis was a massive upgrade. If you wanted to make an argument for not re signing a running back maybe you could say Ridley since we are missing a true between the tackles back with Blount out. I wouldn't because running back is the most overrated position in football. Am I being trolled by this outrageous thread or is he really this worked up about two third down backs?

Grid, are you suggesting that the team should have started the season with Blount, Bolden, Woodhead, Vereen, and Lewis?

If so, that would have been wonderful, and now look like an act of genius. But how might that have come together?

I wouldn't want to miss out on Lewis because of devotion to Woodhead, unless the argument is made that Lewis has always been injury prone and thus is less valuable, even though more talented.

In another thread you said you wouldn't beat this drum again.

That's a Lie. I said I'd let it go within that Thread. You interpreted that to mean that I promised I'd never share my feelings on letting Vereen go, again? That's an interesting perspective on things.

Anyone who doesn't have starter-level talent 5 players deep at each position is a **** GM

Yeah. That's what I said!! Who needs Proven Talent at HalfBack in 2015??

It amazes me how many people wanted to "buy low" on Vereen without any regard for his desire to be bought low. I don't remember if there were any reports of whether he was approached about an extension, but if so then he bet on himself and won. I can't blame a guy for doing that.

Yep. Letting WoodHead and Vereen go and leaving us with no proven Talent but Blount ~ who can't Catch and can't Block and is a PowerBack with questionable Power and got kicked out of PittsBurgh because of an Attitude Problem ~ was brilliant!! Gotta go!! Bill's calling. I guess you'll see me on Sunday!! :D

What gets me is why the Chargers didnt go out and get Lewis and Vereen at the beginning of the year, I mean considering they already had Woodhead.

I agree. With who? If we win the Super Bowl this will be Brady's defining year. Lost all of his receivers at some point for multiple games, down to a 3rd and 4th string RB and maybe a washout to save the day. It would be truly the cherry on top.
