Tim Tebow would find Patriots to be better fit than New York Jets - NFL.com

Nobody in the NFL loves and respects you more than Josh McDaniels. That's why the Patriots offensive coordinator (and former Broncos coach) plucked you in the first round in 2010. That's why he staked his name and reputation to your skill set. McDaniels knows what you can do -- and what you can't.

Think about it for a second, Tim. Here's Tim Tebow, split out wide. Here's Tim Tebow, lined up in the backfield. Here's Tim Tebow to run the option for a play. The skeptic might ask how one can take out Tom Brady. Consider it a carry for the running back. If Pats tight end Aaron Hernandez can get a touch running the football, so can you.

I expected McDaniels to pick you in the first round. I also thought he was rightly fearful that his good friend and mentor Belichick would draft you. You know how tight Belichick is with your former college coach, Urban Meyer. They understand what you bring to a locker room, to the playing field.

I know you want to be a quarterback. I respect that, Tim. But where? New Jaguars general manager David Caldwell couldn't slam that door shut fast enough. He's not bringing you back to your native Florida.

So which other team is it, then? The Oakland Raiders? Hardly. The Cleveland Browns? Not a fit. Tim, if you want to be a quarterback, you have to go to Canada. And frankly, you aren't even a fit for the passing league up north.

John Elway told me on SiriusXM NFL Radio that there's a place for you in the league if a team would use your strengths -- and as you know, he isn't exactly your biggest fan. That team, I think, could be New England.

If there are two coaches that would know how to use him best, they would be on the Patriots. I still think of BB having dinner with Tebow in the North-End right before the draft (Tim with a football in his hands outside the restauant, lol). As the last player on the team, why not.

The Pats had the #1 offense in the league last year. Adding Tim would be a surefire way to tweak things and drop down a few notches.

The only thing that even remotely intrigues me would be......

watching Tebow score on the Jets in a blowout.:p

Edit: But seriously, why bother? The best argument I heard (from Mike Golic surprisingly) was that if Tebow playing for the Pats meant taking Brady off the field for a snap or two, it's not worth it. Brady should NEVER give up his playing time to a backup.

What use do the Patriots have for a player who doesn't do anything particularly well but is OK at a few things?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no

There's no point wasting a roster spot or cap space on him in New England.

He would be good to great in a few areas...fullback, wildcat qb, 3rd down runningback, sub linebacker, sub safety, blocking tight end, possibly a backup wide out, etc.

BB loves the player that can do more things than one. BB loves Tebow.

Why not? He won't be taking Brady's sopt, that would be obvious.

Even if Belichick and McDaniels decided that they could make good use of him as a player, the inevitable media circus would have to make them think long and hard about whether his value was worth it.

    Tebow A Pat

Not sure why people are being this way about the thread. It's not like OP is saying to bring Tebow in as the starting QB or even as backup QB. If you look at Tebow as an all around football player he has the ability to do a number of things for at team. He has great size, good athletic ability and leadership qualities. He could be used in goal line situation, as an H-Back, TE and even WR.

The issue Tebow has always had is teams attempting to use him as a QB instead of just letting him be a role player who can add dimensions.

I'd have no issue with us signing him to a low priced contact to be a role player end of roster offensive player and emergency 3rd QB.

What you fail to recognize is that by now Josh McDaniels knows that he made a mistake taking Tebow late in the first round. He know now that after 3 years its clear that Tebow will NEVER have the accuracy and consistency necessary to be an effective QB in the NFL. 3 years ago, even though everyone recognized the flaws in his game, there was a hope that they could be fixed. But after 3 years of a sub 50% completion percentage it doesn't look like it.

Tebow is a great competitor but a football player without a position in the NFL. Its no shame. There have been many great college players who weren't great NFL players. Tim Tebow is just one of them. It shouldn't lessen any of the success he had in college.

He does have a chance to have a role in this league however. I can see him being an effective back up QB for teams like the Panthers, Redskins, and Seahawks. There the team wouldn't have to radically change the offense just to accommodate him.

The Panthers would be the best fit IMHO. While Newton is a pass first QB who is an effective runner, Tebow could back him up as a run first QB who "could" be an adequate passer. But for the Panthers both QB's would be running the same basic offense, but with just different focuses.

To me that's the only chance for Tebow to have any kind of a long term NFL career. This past year with the Jets killed any chance he had to start anywhere. His only chance at starting now would be coming in as a back up and proving he can improve his passing game enough that he could run a team. That's never going to happen in NE.

BTW- shame on the OP for having such a misleading headline

I'm not a reflex Tebow hater like many here but every one of the roles you mentioned has a better Pats player on the 53 already

    Fullback: don't use em
Wildcat QB: why take the ball out of the hands of Brady and run a gimmick that doesn't work?
3rd down back: Vereen, Woodhead & Demps all suit the role much better
LB/S?: and take the spot of a real LB/S?
TE: Gronk, Hernandez, Fells, Ballard, Hooman...yeah no point.

He would be a complete and utter waste of a roster spot - which can be used by a player of actual use and a couple of million on the cap, which again, could be used to actually improve the team, not on a gimmick player whos time in the league is nearing its end.

He is similar (college qb, better at playing other positions) to Edelman, but a lot more popular. Or, infamous. :D

Maybe it's been proven that Tebow wasn't that amazing as a college QB anyway. Haven't RGIII and Manziel obliterated his records?

Situational player? I seen Cunningham used as a DT last year. I seen Vrabel on the offense. I seen a lot worse.

Tebow does have athletic skills. Just not as a qb. Unless it merits Tom Foolery.

The circus has always been based around him being a starting QB. That speculation would never happen here. He would be on a team with Tom Brady not Mark Sanchez or Kyle Orton..
