His physical stats are impressive, like a bigger Willie Mac, but I can't see the FO grabbing a transition player as high as #7 unless he's a no brainer like Gholston. Wouldn't mind seeing it, just like I wouldn't mind seeing Gholston taken if he's on the board, but I'm just not convinced the FO will take this chance this high...I'd expect, as many have suggested, if Gholston is off the board, and they don't think DRC is worth the 7th overall, and they can't trade down, they grab whichever best OT is still there.M. Mayock has the Pats taking D. Harvey with the #7 pick. Any thoughts on that?
Well only 6 can go before us.I think KC will take Clady if Jake Long goes before 5.
Harvey and Groves would certainly in play. I still am not sure Belichick would take a guy who has such a dramatic position move at #7, though, and that includes Gholston. It adds risk.M. Mayock has the Pats taking D. Harvey with the #7 pick. Any thoughts on that?
IMO Gholston's workout is a good excuse for Parcells not to take Ryan at #1, which he may have been trying to talk himself out of to begin with.
1. Mia: Gholston OLB
2. St L: J. Long OT
3. Atl: C. Long DE
4. Oak: Clady OT
5. KC: Dorsey DT
6. NYJ: J. Stewart RB
7. Carolina from NE: #13, #67 and a 2009 3rd rdr for #7: M. Ryan QB
8. Balt: McFadden RB
9. Cinc: Harvey DE
10. NO: Ellis DT
11. Buff: J. Hardy WR
12. Den: Mendenhall RB
13. NE: K. Rivers/Q. Groves/C. Avril/DRC/Talib
Boise St. LT. More of a LT prospect than a RT as he's quick and athletic for his size but not a physical force. Would sure up the pass protection on the right side, though, and give us a LT option in a year or two when he has some experience and Light is more beaten up.I don't know much about this Clady... is he really that good and has the kind of potential to be a dominant tackle?
Atlanta has positioned themselves to take Ryan. That is, of course, unless they like Flacco or Brohm better. Then they could take Chris Long. And being that its Dmitroff there, he probably does go for long.
I'm probably overthinking this. But I could see Atlanta preferring to bank their millions with C. Long at #3, and then try to game the draft with Flacco/Henne/Brohm at #37. That would look like the "safe" play.
That would be a sweet trade for the Pats if it happened.
Now, why would Denver, who has Travis Henry, Mike Bell, Selvin Young and Andre Hall, draft Mendenhall?
Mendenhall is a great zone rb and Shanahan might get excited. He tends to fall in love irrationally with players. IMO there's no elite OL beyond Clady and Long, unless OG Albert, who could be the early sleeper; Dorsey and Ellis will be gone, and Shanahan may convince himself he's taking the "best player available" when it's really just the player Shanahan has a fancy for. I could also see Shanahan drafting K. Rivers after I. Gold was cut.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if DENVER tried to trade up if Ellis is there when we pick. Denver has a much greater need at DT than they do at RB.
I'll take Clady or J. Long at #7 if available. Brady is the franchise and his health is our most important issue. Clady is a little better than D-Brick, a serviceable LT-not in the class of J. Brown or Marcus McNeil- but better than Light. J. Long isn't close to Joe Thomas, but he would be the best OTackle on the Pats immediately. If both Longs, Gholston and Clady are all gone, and I couldn't trade down, I'd go with Groves or Harvey at OLB..
