What do you guys think of Connor McDermott? I hope he sticks around. Granted, it's a low bar to clear, but he's probably been the most consistent RT we've had this year.
Would like to see more of him. He was shaky his first game, but against the Raiders, he looked good. We'll see the rest of the year.

Everyone not named Judon, Uche, Barmore, or Marcus Jones

Love threads like this where we can discuss the future and ways to fix things rather than just wallow in this teams sucking.

Needs in order according to me
1. New OC
2. Offensive tackle
3. Off ball linebacker
4. Receiver
5. Safety (long term replacement for McCourty)
6. defensive tackle/3-4 end (Guy, Carl Davis and Ekuale will need to be replaced)
7. Tight End (Pats should just waive Jonnu post June 1st)
8. Developmental rush end to learn behind Judon and in case Uche leaves in free agency eventually.

Good news is that the Pats should be able to fill a number of these roles in the draft. If the Pats get a good enough pick and a guy like Stroud falls I would also grab a QB with higher upside in the draft (provided the ceiling was higher than Mac).
7) Jonnu Smith is costing 17.4M against the cap next year. That JUMPS to 19.06M if you cut him. Not happening. They'll trade him first.
8) People are forgetting about Perkins and Jennings already.

Receiver doesn't matter if they don't fix the O-line, the OL Coach and the OC.

Setting aside personnel for a minute, the single most important offseason move will be to fix this Offensive/Special Teams/Offensive Line coaching situation. If they don't do that, it won't matter what magical players they bring into camp.

Setting aside personal bias and hyperbolic overreaction to this season, here is the depth chart featuring players the Patriots already have under contract for 2023. Below that is a list of their free agents according to age and position. This matters more than who you think is "good" or needs replacing. HELP indicates where there is a clear need either by draft pick or free agent. I also crossed out players I think suck or won't help... I didn't say I was setting aside personal bias... it's my list.

They desperately need some Offensive Tackles for the future, if there's a high draft pick or two ready to be used offensively it needs to be here. Trent Brown is the only tackle under contract. I'd spend a high draft pick, and bring another value vet free agent in along with Yodney Cajuste who they could sign for peanuts to an incentive laden deal where he only gets paid if he stays healthy. He's the only RT who played well out there this season but he can't stay healthy.

Like most seasons fans will focus on "weapons" because they think those automatically = offense... they don't. And frankly the Pat's weapons under contract are very good, they just look like crap because of the coaching situation and possibly having to start the backup QB over this year's starter.

That being said, they absolutely need a slot receiver in 2023 so they either bring Meyers back or hopefully Kristian Wilkerson if healthy fills that role. Either Way I'd bring back both Wilkerson and Nixon to camp, they're both good young players they've used resources to develop. Time for them to prove themselves in camp, or for the team to finally cut bait. They could use a mid to late round pick at WR to add some team speed as well.

They also need a young developmental RB in the chute to replace Damien Harris, RB is a position they should draft or find an UDFA every year. They should also take a TE if there's an athletic one of value sitting there in the mid rounds, they need some depth.

Defensively they desperately need a fast weak-side LB for the future and they could also use some size/speed at the CB position. Along with bringing Jon Jones back on a short deal (age), I would find a 1A alpha corner with great speed and agility. That would slide Mills to the 2 position and improve the defense mightily. They also need a Free Safety for the future, this being said I would focus entirely on big fast CB's so I could convert one to free safety. They have decent strong safeties, time to add to the size and speed in the defensive backfield.

The only free agents I’d consider bringing back would be Matthew Slater, Devin McCourty, Jamie Collins, Carl Davis, Joe Cardona, Jonathan Jones, Jabrill Peppers, Yodny Cajuste, Jakobi Meyers, Kristian Wilkerson, Damien Harris, JJ Taylor, Tre Nixon. James Ferentz I might make an assistant offensive line coach. The coaches have a better grasp on the guys too old to continue on, I'll defer to them on that.

The ONLY names on the free agent list worth re-signing for any significant money at all are Jonathan Jones & Jacob Meyers... Some are worth re-signing BUT ONLY to One-year, Non-guaranteed Vet Minimum contracts (Carl Davis, Cardona, McDermott, Peppers, McMillian, Mac Wilson)... And the rest aren't worth re-signing Under ANY Conditions Whatsoever.

Yeah… but you’re Captain Stoned and your entire schtick is telling us our best players suck.

There are a bunch a of free agents beyond the ones you mentioned worth bringing back if the money and contract conditions were right.

An elite LT should be priority #1, and the team should be prepared to use some picks to move up in the draft to ensure it lands one. Bump Brown back to the right side, and say goodbye to Wynn.

A legit wideout is priority #2. Doesn't need to be a top 10 diva type, but a top 25 pass catcher would be enough to open the rest of the offense. My hope that a DeAndre Hopkins or Mike Evans type becomes available via trade for reasonable compensation.

#3 priority is shutdown corner. We've been burned by top WRs enough this year. Similar to the WR position, adding one legit top corner makes the rest of the group pretty solid.

#4 priority is an off ball linebacker. Lots of depth on the roster, no standouts. It is a deep free agent class for the position, so I'd hope to see the team go that road.

I still say a legit #1 WR.
Look at the top teams in the AFC
Buffalo has Diggs
KC has Kelce(whose a glorified WR anyways)
Cincy has Chase

And before someone says "we won without a #1 WR before!!!" we had TB12 back then who covered a lot of warts and he did have the GOAT TE in the 2nd dynasty run. Get Mac some help Meyers as your #1 isn't going to cut it.
We had the best Tight End ever, and consistent chain movers. Edelman, White, Vareen and on

Read my Lips: No more GUARDS in the 1st round! :poop:

QB, WR, LT, LB are positions we need to improve and the draft is probably the best place to get them because they are very expensive in free agency.

You could pick nearly any position on the roster and make an argument that it needs to be improved.

But I’ll stick with the same positions I said last offseason (OL, LB). They stunk last season and the stunk again…just another GM Bill fail.

Well, they're practically a "zero passing TD" team
Keep showing everyone you don't understand the game of football.

Orlando Brown has been benched and considered a failure

Where have you seen that Orlando Brown was benched and is considered a failure? Brown was playing at LT today against the Seahawks. Game 1 and Game 7 are the only 2 games prior to this week where he didn't play 100% of the snaps. He played in 91% and 93% respectively.

A few things:
Raleigh Webb is a WR the same way that Matthew Slater is a WR.
When did Jack Jones become a "Slot Corner"? Jack Jones is 1/4" shorter than Ty Law was.
Josh Uche is Pass-Rush Specialist. I think he's growing into being a better OLB, but he's not there yet. Not sure why you have him listed at MLB.

Why do you have lines through DeMarcus Mitchell and Ronnie Perkins?
Addington is a UFA after the season.
I honestly believe the brought Mills in to take over from DMac. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pats sign a big name CB this off-season.

OT - I totally agree that they need a LT and a Swing Tackle to go with Trent Brown and Connor McDermott.
CB - A CB over 6'0 would be nice. You don't typically find good ones like that outside the 1st round of the draft. Patrick Peterson will be available on a short deal and he's still playing a ton of snaps despite his age. There are several 5'11 starters who are going to be FAs at the end of the year. I expect only 2 to be franchised in Peters and Bradberry. Jamel Dean from the Bucs could be someone the Pats target. At 6'2 he can cover taller receivers.
LB - the Pats us Nickel and Dime packages more than anyone else, using the 4-3 Under as their base. That takes a LB off the field in favor of the additional safety in Dugger. They do need a Faster LB who can cover RBs/TEs but can also hold up against the run to put on the field opposite Bentley. People have mentioned Tremaine Edmunds from Buffalo. Wouldn't be surprised if Buffalo put the Transition tag on him. the only LB I see getting tagged is Quincy Williams of the Jets.
RB - There are going to be a BUNCH of good RBs available. David Montgomery, Pollard, Jacobs, Barkley, Jamaal Williams (Lions). I would expect the Pats to add a Vet who can run and catch the ball. Someone who can push Stevenson, Strong, and Harris, but be the guy to step in if there is an injury.
FS- I don't know that I see anyone who would be a fit. I expect Bates and Epps to get big contracts.

I hope they don't bring Bryant back. Almost nothing good seems to happen when he's on the field.

IF Meyers is the Top of the WR FA class Avoid it like the plague.
Meyers isn't the "top" of the WR Class. That would be JuJu Smith-Schuster and Allen Lazard. Other intriguing players will be Mecole Hardman, Parris Campbell, Darius Slayton and DJ Chark. Mack Hollins has put together a nice season for himself.

That is, of course, until players get cut after the end of the season.

Oh I know that some around here was entertaining the thought that Meyers was.
