Pats Trade for Haynesworth (merged)

He's ALREADY hustling faster than he did in DC!

This made me laugh out loud.

I was listening to sports talk radio here in D.C. and I thought it was telling that everyone basically expects the Pats to make lemonade out of this lemon because it's just what they do. Gotta love this franchise.

A welcome change from the late 80's and early 90's

Is Vince a bad guy for "trying" to poke out an OL's eye through his facemask? It's football, not synchronized swimming.

Rodney, Dillon, Moss...who am I missing in terms of guys with malcontent reputations that turned into gold under BB's watch?

Good post...a lot of guys in NFL can be pretty nasty....but like u told the other guy....this isn't figure skating.:..when the adrenaline is flowing....some crazy sh*t can happen. A lot of clotheslines/chop blocks/horse collars/spearing happened when I played. Do what it takes to win...this is football. Good points bud.

This may be one of the best posts on the subject.....very nice...

After a particularly bad hit on Brady in the 2009 pre-season, Haynesworth went on to wax poetic about the Patriots and his love for the team, according to NESN.com:

“I'm actually a big Tom Brady fan. I'm a big Patriots fan. I've always like the Patriots, I've always liked Coach Belichick. I just like the way [Brady] is.

When you step back from football, I've always liked the Patriots. I don't know why. It's just something about them. I've always liked the Patriots."

Just hope he can come in and play, if so he is one of the best linemen in the league and we struck gold..if not he's cut and we are looking for another interior linemen, preseason games will be fun to watch with this guy trying to prove himself.

Is there an over/under for how many tries Haynesworth will need to pass the conditioning test?

I haven't read this whole thread, so I'm sure it's been said, but I really LOVE this move because it brings some attitude, swagger, nastiness, and dirtiness to the defense.

We have not had a guy with this type of aura since Rodney Harrison. He's not the same leader/motivational guy that Rodney was, but he's a "tone setter" on defense that will play dirty and get after it physically like Rodney. He's a guy that can play angry and be extremely dangerous. I can't wait to see this guy get after QB's and viciously drive them into the ground.

I'd love to see him stomp on Mangold or D'Brickashaw or even Sanchez the same way he stomped on Gurode when he was in Tennessee hahaha.

Been crushed with work lately so haven't really been plugged in, but woke to this story on DC local tv news... WOW. Just WOW.

Living in the DC metro area, I can tell you that the Skins fans I know will be glad to get rid of AH. He didn't get his way, so he sat like a diamond crusted mule. Fact is, most wanted him gone long ago. Takes cap space and doesn't play... who'd like that?

I like the limited liability the Pats have taken on, b/c this guy is a wild card and does not deserve a long term deal right now. Let him prove himself.

I think BB can get him playing and it seems he likes the Pats organization, so I'm hopeful. The more I think about it, the more I like it.

Put down those hot dogs AH, it's football time!

50/50 he makes the team.
If motivated and in shape he'll make a big impact on that D.

Agree... this is a thug sport. If I wanted a gentleman's game I would watch cricket.

This was probably posted already but it looks like he got some rest while he was on the Redskins. He should have a lot left in the tank!

Yeah, I think there's some truth to this. You can still do stuff "the right way" and all that, but it's good to have a couple guys w/a bit of the nasty to them. Felt like the team was a little emasculated against the Jets after the Welker benching.

Does anyone know if this deal is actually a done deal? I thought they were trying to rework his contract, make it more incentive laden?

Why would they redo his deal? Its cheap money left, and no bonuses, so there's no consequences to cutting him. Its essentially riskless as it is.

Thank you for posting that. To think that this board thinks this fat tub of goo is the "missing piece" is hilarious. Looks like he was taking a nap on that play...hilarious.:singing:

Exactly. Some of the yahoos around here would welcome Bin Laden if he could get to the QB.

There is no way Haynesworth is only coming in here to be a 4-3 pass rush specialist. He'll line up at DE in the 3-4. Brace yourselves because the days of watching opposing offenses rip long, back breaking runs in the playoffs are over.

that would be a contradiction to how he's played in washington. from your lips to god's ears, I guess. I'm just hoping he's not an all out turd. I'm not sure he's athletic enough to play 3-4 DE. Too turd like in his slowness. I hope I'm wrong. I see him as a 4-3 DT, that's pretty much it.

How would signing OBL impact the Pats cap with dead money?

Im pretty sure it would doom us to the dreaded "CAP HELL"...

You know, the one that the Jets and Colts were suppose to be in the last 5 years and counting.

No, you're...hilarious. Or something. "No, not a chance Haynesworth can return to pre-Redskins form and be absolutely dominant because of this one youtube clip" ("or the fact that he's a grade-A D-bag") lol.

You think Belichick is going to tolerate plays like that for one second? You're insulting BB, Pepper Johnson, Floyd Reese, and this entire organization if you're implying that the trade was a mistake or that they don't know what they're getting into.
