I just read that link. Holy crap, how did BB draft this guy after seeing that? You can't pick a guy who doesn't even like football in the first round.

I doubt he ever saw that, it's a blurb from a writer and it wasn't in any of his draft profiles. I think they knew he was an odd duck but I don't believe they knew he didn't care but used a first on him anyways. If they did then it's complete incompetence on their part.

Let's not overreact to that article. Matt Light said the first time he watched an NFL game was when he was on the field for the first time. I doubt you guys would say Belichick was incompetent for taking Light.

Easley said he likes to play, but doesn't like to watch it on TV. I don't see why this by itself is such a big issue. How did this turn into he doesn't like football?

Im sure BB saw that spoke with him spoke with the scouts and Doms coaches and thought the kid is still growing up.
He has a god given talent and we can coach him up the rest of the way not to mention the Wilforks and Ninks he thought would turn this boy into a man.
At the end of the day that compounded with the injuries is why a top 5 talent level wise fell to the end of the first round.
Carrol and Schneider was planning on taking him if we didnt.
So just like every pick you weigh everything out make a determination remember Gronk and Volmer?
You hit on some you miss on more.
The kid if he can recover is a huge talent if he turns his sights to his god given talent then some team will have a heck of a reclaimation project.

Because a player who doesn't watch football is highly unlikely to watch hours and hours of game film and shouldn't be trusted to do the work necessary to be great, and doing the work clearly seems to be the reason that they cut bait with Easely. Athletic ability alone can get you to the NFL but being a great player in the league requires working your ass off and Easely want going to do it. The fact that no team has made any move to pick him up makes b it clear that there are big problems with him. Joe Banner claimed Results release was a gift to the NFL and the only question was how many teams would pick him up yet not one has done so. Easely is a huge bust and I seriously doubt he will have a productive career from here on out.

To be clear, I realize these guys are immersed in working out and those who are professionals are likely watching game film and focused on their upcoming opponent, I don't think they have the time to watch much football and wouldn't use it as criteria in that regard, however what Easely demonstrated was complete disdain for the game and that should have been a huge red flag.

I disagree. I think he is unwilling to do the work on most fronts and doesn't take input from his coaches and trainers. It takes much more than talent to be a great lineman in the NFL and it sounds like Easely simply doesn't have the drive to do it.

Do you watch videos on how to make a better Big Mac in your spare time?

Thanks for the chuckle. :D

It reminds me of my Dad. I love him dearly, but throughout the years he has been telling me that the best way to learn how to paint is to watch painting videos, the best way to learn how to dance is to watch dancing videos, etc.

The funny thing is: there probably really are videos put out by McDonald's on how to make a better Big Mac. :p

There was in the 90s when I was a burger jockey for Mickey-Dees

No, but I'm guessing you don't watch gay porn either.

I do but I'm the Tom Brady of Gay porn.

I disagree because this town ain't big enough for the two of us.

Ok, I acknowledge your post explaining why you disagree and will not escalate to Ian. Please file the appropriate forms and we will leave this to arbitration.

"Players win games, coaches lose them" - Bill Belichickism....

Hmmmm...

I think that's a bit of a reach for a conclusion based on the tiny snippet of info provided.

Maybe Easley doesn't like watching random football games on TV, but cares greatly about watching game film which will directly affect him. Or maybe he doesn't care at all. Hard to tell based on what was reported though.

Brady didn't watch the end of the Steelers/Broncos game on TV this year, and we all know how much film he loves to watch. I remember hearing him talk about not always watching TV games because the angles don't really give you a clear idea of what's going on. Nobody is going to suggest Brady doesn't love the game or watch enough film.

I mean, Easley might not give a ****. It is possible. But we're just guessing, and the reported info doesn't really tell us anything conclusively. We're just jumping to conclusions here.

I disagree. Had he said he was to busy playing and preparing etc.... It would be one thing but he said he had never watched more than two quarters of a football game in his life and usually turned away to "cartoons." He really showed complete disinterest in the sport. And as it turned out he cared so little he went to Vegas instead of going to SB49 and was on record that he didn't even care if the Patriots won or not. Thats someone who truly doesn't give a sh.t.

I don't. He may have had an ok career there but that franchise is a disaster.

There are some great players that can show up and be great with someone like me coaching them.

Some great players need the right environment, situation, support system, structure, mentoring, coaching and opportunities to extract the greatness from within so it sees the light of day.

IMO, with Tom is more the latter.
But that does not work if the coach that is there when they show up does not play them. Regardless of how they do on the field the coach might yield to outside pressures, just as happened with Brady when Henson showed up at Michigan. If that happened to him in the NFL it could easily have cost him his shot at greatness.

Here's an interesting post that Reiss made today, talking about that topic. Seems like there are other knowledgeable observers who feel that Belichick made Brady the success he is today, or at least enabled it by not screwing him up. To me that says the the coach not the QB gets the credit for the Patriots' success.

Would Tom Brady's career have been the same if not drafted by Patriots?

Tying this to Easley, I'd say Easley shows that no matter how good the coach, he can't make a player successful if the player has fatal flaws. A good coach can make a good player better, a bad coach can make a good player worse, but neither of them will make a bad player into a good player.
