just wanna get your guys opinion on the pats moving up in the draft to get a special player. the way i see it they can prob package the 2 1st round picks and move up to about 9 or 10. anyone see that happening? if we can move up and get landry then i think were set on defense.

I like the idea, but wouldn't that involve including the Pats 3rd round pick? If the Pats had a 2nd rounder, I would say maybe. But If the Pats were to move up to get that "special player", they would end up with probably 2 1st day picks. I would rather keep my draft picks and move up one or two spots if necessary. My ideal 1st round would be, ILB Patrick Willis and S Michael Griffen.

Sure, I've been advocating it for Adam Carriker in the Draft Forum, but I think BB has his eye on a Punter at #24 and will wait and see if he falls. (By the way, #24 + #28 = 8 using new math and the Jimmy Johnson draft value table.)

If they draft this Carriker character, which he will probably be gone by #11 to San Fran., I would throw up!

I think, from a "Value" perspective, it might be better for us to Keep one 1st(Hopefully 24) and trade the other. I think a couple teams have 2 second round picks, maybe swap our first for those OR find a team like the Raiders who have HIGH picks in each round and maybe swap with them(If for some reason they fall in love with a player that WILL be there at 28, but not for there spot in round 2) for their 2nd and 3rd. This way we can pick some "Value" guys that should be around then, but might be too high to spend a first on(Buster Davis, David Harris, Zak Deossie etc).

Never. I think of the busts of the past.

    Tim Couch.
    Ryan Leaf.
    Akili Smith.
    Joey Harrington.
    Robert Gallery.
    Any Browns 1st round pick.

The late first rounders are cheaper/better value. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats traded the second pick for more picks.

Picks in the 20-32 range five better price/performance than a top 10 pick, take the 2 first rounders and be happy. Trade down if the guy you want isn't there football is a game of attrition over the course of a full season you need lots of good players.

Willis and Friffen would make my off season

Why do you say that? I don't understand. Also, why do the Pats need another D-lineman that will have no impact rushing the passer? That was one of the defenses weaknesses last year.

    #11 Jersey

I think it depends on who is there. With the top of the draft as deep as it is, there could be special players still there at #24. No one thought Vince Wilfork would be even close to #21 back in 2004. Sean Salisbury called it "legalized theft."

A lot of people thought we had to "settle" for the 6th best DL in the draft back in 2003, Ty Warren. People wanted us to trade both picks to move up for Dewayne Robertson. Sometimes sitting is your best bet.

Seriously, if BB made that move and it upset your tummy that much I'd be laughing at you being so emotional over a draft choice BB made. Especially for a guy drawing comparisons to Seymour and has short space mobility and change of direction speed to rival this year's leading LBs Willis and Posluszney - I'd love to see him get a chance to try some OLB alongside Warren in preseason.

EDIT for your EDIT: What the devil are you griping about DL rushing the passer for? Warren collected 7+ sacks if I recall correctly, a bit of an increase over past seasons. A healthy Seymour livens that mix up.

I guess if you think we have one major need to set us up for the future. Personally, I think we have a few more needs and would like to try and solve them with the two first rounders. Back in 04' we landed Wilfork and Ben Watson without moving.

I could see BB/Pioli doing multiple trades to move up a few spots and move down into the early 2nd too.

IIRC, we had 2 first round picks in 03'- traded up a couple of spots to land Ty Warren and then traded out of the 1st Round completely (got Baltimore's 04 first round pick, but can't remember what else).

i cant see us trading our #24..or #28...instead i can see us packaging our later round picks to try to maybe get a 2nd rounder or possibly another 3rd rounder...i beleive it was kraft who said the picks in the 25-30 range hold hte best value
