Not in the Patriots best interests... But...

meh.

Problem is that the Bills winning secures the fact that the Chiefs won’t even be able to secure the 3 seed. (Winner of Bills Dolphins may determine this)

If the Bears decide that they want Marv Harrison Jr. and one of the top OL to pair with Fields...they could give us their #1 overall for our 4th-6th and a 2nd...maybe....
Fair enough…I’d be ecstatic with either Maye or Daniels. I just want a dynamic quarterback; everything else can be sorted out afterwards (LT, WR etc..)

Giving up the farm to move up a few spots when there are comparatively multiple options at QB, OT, WR seems like the desperate moves we see fail every year. All they garner is attention and I'm not sure that isn't the ultimate goal of some front offices.

And fans on here.

there are some really desperate ideas that are unlikely to work and likely to ensure prolonged mediocrity in Foxboro.

Fields has not played himself out of job yet.

Harrison, Moore and Kemet would be a heck of a triple threat.

If Pats win the next 2 games, they'll drop to #9. It's going to take a hell lot more than that to trade for the #1 pick.

Arizona might be locked into Murray too so that's two teams that might not go QB. Either can trade with us and not have to drop as far or not trade at all and don't take a Q if they feel that highly about someone like Harrison and Don't want to risk losing them at all.
So you guys want to win 2 meaningless games to then turn around and lose much needed assets to trade up, as a result of winning 2 meaningless games. That's just a brilliant way of thinking.

Winning is a tradition we fans are used to, particularly those of us who grew old with this team.. saw some info about the debacle that occurred in '91-'92, it takes a while for a team to recover.
The Pats should play to win every game, it is what we expect and what has made this team great. Anything less than a great effort is not acceptable.. otoh the chances of beating Buffalo on their turf is slight, in my best Steve Sabol voice, "on any given Sunday".
Then the Jets are the Jets, what is it 16 in a row we have beaten them??

Those 2 teams are already ahead of us.

There are other considerations. Winning the last few games helps develop the resources currently on the team for next year and creates a much more positive atmosphere going into the offseason. Establishing the core of players and creating the attitude that the team is on the upswing will help attract FA, allow the team to spend draft capital wisely and provide motivation for the offseason program. That said, a hard fought loss to Buffalo, where the Bills win the game vs. the Pats lose the game is the best of both worlds.

I really cant see the benefit of winning either of the last two games. Who is it benefiting? There are no guarantees any player or coach will be back next year, so I cant see how the winning culture plays into this. It would only benefit individual players and possibly some coaches. It would not benefit the "team" in any way.
On the flip side, each draft position has value. The lower you go the less value. If the argument is we could get Naybers for instance. Well you still could but also be picking up additional value.
For me its not about being able to select a certain player (like Williams or Maye), its about the value of each pick, and if you get lucky like the Bears did last year. You can rebuild an organization with one great draft if things fall your way.
ps i know the Bears aren't good yet, but they are most certainly trending in the right direction.

There are no meaningless games for the players, only for the fans.
Agree. I don't expect the players to try to lose because they won't. These dudes are too competitive and hate to lose.

I'm just talking as a fan. It's as meaningless as wishing them to win out since we have zero control/effect over what happens.

I'm actually conflicted because I want to see Zappe grow and ball out. Like @Stu Pidassle says above, best case imo is a hard fought battle where we just lose. Maybe take the lead in the 4th and see our D give up the winning score. That's as entirely likely as any other scenario you can play out.

I want zappe to throw over 300 yards in both the games and we lose in last minute by a fumble in end zone . That way we identify the core of Oline, QB and WR and also have momentum leading to the year without losing draft position.

I always root for a win, but the losses aren't as disappointing as they used to be.

Point is we wouldn't need to trade up if we had the #3 pick.
If they aren't going QB and you want to you might have to trade just to prevent someone else.
