I would consider offering Upshaw the cap space I might've saved for Hightower.

For some, the grass is always greener on the other side....What on earth would motivate you to do such a thing?

Would kick the tires on Colston for sure though he's getting old.
Why? To back-up Edelman?Colston would seem like a no-brainer here if the money is right.
He's a slot guy.Colston is an upgrade over Dobson and 2015 LaFell.
I'm not sure thats saying much
Yep middle of the field guy. Need to be able to line up everywhere in this offense. He's a slot guy.
There are a couple of points to your post that I just can't get my head around.
1) Offering Upshaw the cap space you might have saved on High. What space would that be? High was paid $8m last year and he most likely will consume ~$1om AAV (signing bonus, guarantees, salary, etc) with an extension here. Are you saying Courtney Upshaw is worth $10m a year?
2) Courtney Upshaw is not as good of a player as High so with him joining the team the defense is now worse.
