"Mentor" Dungy at it again

I hate puritans period. Sorry, but anyone worried about your 6 year old son hering it, he'll hear a lot worse by the time he hits 2nd grade, trust me. You might as well lock your kid ina boarded room with bars on the windows if you're worried about them learning profanity. They'll know more words than you by 5th grade.

LOL. I love the comments. Especially this:

He also said the Saints didn't stand a chance to beat the Colts in the Super Bowl and well...that didn't pan out did it?

And I laughed at this (maybe I shouldn't have):

I think what Tony Dungy meant to say was "Gay people should be sent to camps to be cured."

I don't see a problem with it either. I did not mind the "F" bombs at all and I was somewhat amused (I did laugh at Rex not with him), BUT, is that really the way the NFL wants to promote their product??

Well said.

Rex is classless for not cleaning it up for the cameras. Its not Professional.

It's classless or unprofessional if he's a network personality or he's giving an interview.

That's not what Hard Knocks is. The teams shouldn't be on tiptoes because the NFL has decided to do an HBO show that's supposed to be realistic.

If the NFL has a problem with how it fits with the NFL's image, they should cut the language out or not do the show.

If parents have a problem with their kids hearing that language, they shouldn't let them watch the show.

If adults are offended by such language, they shouldn't watch it themselves.

Overboard. I deal with 5-7 year olds and would assiduously avoid exposing them to low life behaviour wherever possible. Including my own.

Not only that, but why is it that Rex Ryan gets to be outspoken and give his opinion while he coaches an NFL team but Dungy, who is retired, has to keep his mouth shut? If anything, Dungy should be allowed to speak his mind since he no longer works for the Colts.

I can't stand Wrecks Ryan and I dont particularly care for how he expresses himself, but I don't know who appointed Dungy to the morality police. And it wasn't me.

This guy gets it.

Almost worth subscribing to HBO. Almost.

Dungy is an arrogant hypocrite. And that is the crux of the situation.

If Hard Knocks wants a proper representation of what it's like at practice and behind closed doors with NFL sides I suggest Ryan keeps the language flowing freely. I'd challenge every person here to show me an elite sporting environment that doesn't reach the "swear point" on a daily basis.

Dungy is a pompous and self righteous ******** who can do **** himself. Perhaps he should invoke and change his very public mantra of "quiet strength" to "I'll shut the **** up strength". :)

This makes no sense. How is it that he's mediocre? He's a super bowl winning coach, turned around a Tampa Bay franchise and now has a gig as analyst on NBC. If he's mediocre, what does that make the rest of us? Sounds to me you don't like him because he's an outspoken Christian.

He doesn't have the right to try and shove his values on other people.. Period. Dungy is a hypocritical man and has a holier than though arrogance about him.

Hmmm, never thought I would see Rex Ryan in a sympathetic light, but here we sit. Dungy is a blowhard jerk who really needs to be knocked off his pedastle.

Rex is free to talk however he sees fit. If the players or the management don't like it, he'd be out of a job. He's not. Leave him alone.

You can watch it on HBO's site.

...which is why the whole "that's why it runs at 10:00 on HBO" argument doesn't hold water in the modern media world.

It runs on premium cable, which isn't subject to FCC standards. In the same time slot on Sunday, you can watch Adrian Grenier plowing through tequila and coke while ******* a porn star. And you have to register an account on HBO.com before you can watch it. Besides, if your kid is using the internet unsupervised, stumbling across Hard Knocks should be the least of your worries.

And, like others on this thread have said, does anyone honestly believe that their child hasn't heard plenty of f-bombs already? Does this really pass for a controversy nowadays?

Count me among those who consider Dungy holier-than-thou and pompous. But here is a better question - Rex Ryan didn't just pick up his salty language habit. Why feature him on the show in the first place? Why not cut out his profanities? They didn't have enough other tape? The truth is, the NFL loves his ridiculous wind-baggery, and is probably crossing their fingers that his diatribes (which are being well publicized by Dungy and others) result in big ratings, rather than "letters to the editor."

Patchick,

You've got a good head on your shoulders. I for one am a fan!
Respects,

Rich

Bullplop(I like this phrase, not being ironic).

They put it on at 10pm where kids are supposed to be asleep or not watching that kind of programing, put it on a premium channel where you have to pay to watch knowing the standards are non-existant if not lapse in the first place, put it online where you have to purposely seek the show out, then force you to have to register to see the episode- it does fit in with that argument.

They go to great lengths to keep it away from people who don't want to see it, to actually complain about the content is a load of garbage because to actually see it you have to want to see it.
