He really wants Goodell to get involved? Criminy. Rex amuses me; Dungy disgusts me with his smugness and holier-than-thou crap.

(Funny .. can't write "Dungy" without writing "Dung").

Dungy is the windbag? Please, get the eff out. Its "sexy rexy" thats the obnoxious doofus here. Dude never won junk and he swears up and down like a classless punk.
Dungy isn't 'holier than thou', he is simply giving advice to a doofus whos act will grow wearisome once his team starts to suck.

I think it's fine for him, or anybody, to say "for %$#&'s sake, this is ridiculous. Talk like a grownup and set a better tone for the league." There's certainly a point to that.

But -- context is everything. This is the guy who urged the league to put a QB who served prison time for torturing animals back on the field. And now he wants the commissioner to personally step in to police a coach's off-field vocabulary, lest it tarnish the league's wholesome image. Curious, no?

I don't see a problem with it either. I did not mind the "F" bombs at all and I was somewhat amused (I did laugh at Rex not with him), BUT, is that really the way the NFL wants to promote their product??

Kids, wives, mothers are watching and it just isn't the kind of talk I think is appropriate for them. I understand if offended people can simply switch the channel, but should they really need to be monitoring NFL productions??

Not only that, but why is it that Rex Ryan gets to be outspoken and give his opinion while he coaches an NFL team but Dungy, who is retired, has to keep his mouth shut? If anything, Dungy should be allowed to speak his mind since he no longer works for the Colts.

I think Rex Ryan is a pompous windbag, but Dungy has to get overhimself.

What's wrong with parents dictating what their kids watch on TV and viewers deciding whether or not Rexie's constant profanity is offensive or not, instead of Goodell? He's got his hands in enough, the last thing I want is more of his monitoring:rolleyes:

Let the public/free markets decide what they think of the show and Rex; write into the show, don't allow your kids to watch it, etc.

It's not that I necessarily disagree w/ Dungy's points, that's his opinion and as a commentator he has the right to express his opinions. Is he a holier-than-thou hypocrite? Well yeah he is ;) but either way get GODell out of the picture.

This if NFL football not the Bolshoy ballet. Hellooooooooooooo......
BTW can't help but wonder how many times "Mentor" Tony Dungy confronted Warren Sapp and John Lynch and Derrick Brooks and Dwight Freeney and Bob Sanders and Jeff Saturday over their "salty" language.
Dungy is a pompous jack*$$ who constantly injects himself into others business. Someone needs to tell this fraud where to go. Just too bad Bill Belichick isn't the outspoken type because we know BB can't stand Dungy. Maybe Rex will sarcastically ask Dungy's advice on how to mentor ones own son. ;)

Nothing at all is wrong with that - parents should certainly take the interest and make those decisions.

However, certain things, to me, should be in a class of "safe to watch" without needing to be monitored. I believe MLB, NFL etc are in that "safe" classification. If I was gearing my business to families of all ages, I sure would like to protect my product and brand name and have it be in that class. Goodell should be the gate keeper here, that is one of his duties for the good of the game.

St. Dungy should appeal to the Commish to see if there isn't some diplomatic way for NFL teams to settle their differences without all that violence.

This makes no sense. How is it that he's mediocre? He's a super bowl winning coach, turned around a Tampa Bay franchise and now has a gig as analyst on NBC. If he's mediocre, what does that make the rest of us? Sounds to me you don't like him because he's an outspoken Christian.

Goodell had to know exactly what he was getting when Rexie signed on. He's a character with a big mouth who's generating a lot of attention and has since he came on the scene. I'll never believe that Rex's language comes as any surprise to Goodell. If his goal was a family-friendly show he picked the wrong guy LOL.

Valid points on both counts. Hard Knocks is a promotional tool for the league, and a promotional tool Woody persued because promotion is what he's all abnout. But at the end of the day it doesn't bother me in the least that someone is putting the NFL partnership on notice that loose cannon HC's can be bad for the overall image of an increasingly image conscious league looking to expand it's core demographic. Reality TV is one way to go, for sure, but if you watched earlier Hard Knocks it started out as a behind the scenes docu-drama on designed to enlighten fans on the hardships encountered on the road to a career or a championship season in this league. HBO has morphed it into entertainment potentially at the expense of players efforts.

It sounds like the show's strayed from it's original intent.
