Point well taken on the general point on how fleeting the free cap space can be, but I'd just rather not see James Sanders being mentioned as some solution to any of our problems even if temporarily. I hope instead BB drafts a Harrison Smith, George Iloka, Trumaine Johnson or a Brandon Taylor in the 2nd-3rd round.
With Peyton signing with AZ or Denver they're coming here so we'll NEED Sanders
Not meaning to take this 25 page thread off topic too much, but I wouldn't have a problem with Sanders returning for a depth/backup role. Assuming that the main point in his release was the fact that he was making too much at the time, he would be coming a lot cheaper than before.
Considering that he knows the system and atmosphere around the team, I could think of a lot of other players who may be worse fits than Sanders.
I don't think any of us want to see him being forced to start though. The key words would be 'backup,' 'depth,' and 'cheap.'

You're killing me man!
Can we get Tebucky back too while we're at it?
Tim Fox has lost 1/2 step but still might be an upgrade.
Moreover, let's point this out: it's not like the Pats have been cheap. They've just spent money on second-tier guys or reclamation guys, hoping to luck out into star production. How much did they spend last year on Ocho and Shaun Ellis, combined? Ten million? A fair gamble, and the contracts were short enough, but for ten million a year, they probably could have a young, in-his-prime stud like Vincent Jackson instead of an older lottery ticket like Ocho.
If memory serves, the Patriots picked up two Pro Bowlers in free agency last year. (Carter & Waters) You seem dissatisfied with that. What, in your opinion, would have been a more reasonable number for them to have gotten?
The non-snarky way of saying that is that you're cherry-picking by naming the least successful FA signings.
Sorry, I was joking in memory of Sanders' game ending pick of Peyton in his last game in Foxboro
I don't recall his cut having anything to do with money, but more to do with not being in shape and struggling on the field.
