Mark Cuban: Roger Goodell handled Deflategate 'masterfully'

Spoken like someone who really really really wants to be one of the 31.

I guarantee you that he hasn't read the Wells Report, the rebuttal report, any of the court documents, any of the scientific studies and analyses, any unbiased opinion pieces, or anything that honestly discusses framegate.

He is informed to the extent of what he has been told by ESPN and by other biased media.

I dont agree with all of what Cuban said. Goodell did not handle the Brady case masterfully. He had a number of public mis-steps and over reaches, for example calling Wells an "independent" investigator was a PR disaster.

But, to his point that Goodell has little power to act on his own, I do agree. I believe every major decision the guy makes, he makes based on the owner's consensus. I base this opinion on the fact that he earns nearly $40 million a year, an outrageous sum for what he does, and any sane individual would not want to jeopardize a gig like that by making rogue decisions that could end up getting him fired if he pissed off enough owners.

So in the end, Goodell is just carrying water for 32 owners and simply projecting their will down on the players. For those of you who feel Goodell is to blame for this witch hunt called called Deflategate, I think you are giving this guy way too much credit and just playing into the charade set up by the owners. They want you to blame him. This is what they pay him for and I believe this is the most powerful point Cuban made with his statements.

If you want to direct your outrage about anything the NFL has done it should be directed on the owners.

Cuban wants to buy a NFL team & he has a history or being a thorn in the side of David Stern.

He is kissing Goodell's @ss because he want to appear like the other 31 NFL Lemmings.

It is nothing more than a smoke show.

What did you think he would say? I bet you cannot find one owner (of any pro sports league) who would not side with the "establishment" because at the end of the day, that's what all these guys are about.
Even our very own didn't completely side with us (accepting the fine and the draft pick) until he realized whatever under-the-table deal he thought he had was tossed back in his face.

I don't fault Cuban for siding with his own on this...but I still fault OUR owner for not being more assertive and aggressive in saving the name of his franchise QB and reputation of his team.

I agree. I didn't read the whole Wells Report, either. I heard what the ESPN guys had to say...and I chose to listen to the critique of WEEI and other Boston podcasts that broke it down for me.
Anyone who is not a Patriots fan or directly gains/loses from Deflategate would be ridiculous to take the time to read hundreds of pages of Ted Wells' distorted opinion. Read a book instead.
Mark Cuban is not ridiculous...he is a really smart, self-made guy who knows what to put his time and energy into and what to just let the masses quibble over.
