Just noticed, though not surprised, that Mankins fourth rounder is almost another 3rd round pick. They pick 96, 97 and 101.
I've seen BB work this before and it fits in beautifully with his philosophy. Say he likes a guard or two around the bottom of the third. Not really unusual to pick up somebody at that position, there.
Of course, he'd love to take a flyer on some small school raw cornerback, of the boom and bust variety, or an injured one. Think Asante Samuel. He could gamble on the boom/bust corner and still guarantee his choice of guard with the next pick, or even get another guard at 101, something he likes [competition].
Or, he could gamble in the second, like a TE with a bad back, or a lesser known LB without a lot of LB experience from a lousy school that always lost, then catch all the dropping picks, safe and gambles alike with the three 3/4 round picks.
Of course, he can still trade all but the comp pick, especially if he finds a partner who wants someone in that range.
Love the" have your cake and eat it to" aspect since i know he'll have some gambles that might be too risky, but are like free picks in this situation.
