Lardarius Webb could be the best free agent available for the Pats
By: John Morgan

Perhaps the most important potential free agent acquisition for the New England Patriots is one that almost nobody is talking about. How is it that Lardarius Webb is flying under the radar - and how could his acquisition improve not one, but two positions...

For the 31st pick, yeah maybe

Overrating Webb's skills quite a bit IMO. He's solid, and a legit #1, but not the best in the league next to Revis.

...He is in my opinion the best cornerback in the NFL not named Darrelle Revis...

Stopped reading right there

Too many assets involved. You can get a really good player with a first round pick and another really good player with $10M a year. No point in giving both to the same really good player.

This article overrates Webb too much. But if the Pats want to use their first round pick to acquire a RFA, but I would much rather the Pats use it on Webb than Mike Wallace. Not even close in my eyes. Much rather have Webb and go for a cheaper option (Lloyd) at WR.

Lets do it. Get Lloyd and Webb in, also take a shot at Mario Williams as well. Thats my ideal 'big' FA signings....

We cannot afford those 3 players

I think we may see some sad posters around here in regards to free agency

However, the team should improve heading towards 2012, and unfortunately that will somehow go unnoticed.

He gets help, always, unlike Revis. He's better than Carr on the seal and closes fast, but a good wr can get separation on him because his reads are dicey. He's got the skill set (i.e., good lookback, can run a wr out, etc.) though.

BB talked about his tackling and physical attributes. Draw your own conclusions.

Unless I'm getting a shutdown corner I'm not giving up picks and pay. Webb isn't a shutdown corner. I'll take my chances on Ras-I.

He's got a great name if he was a nose tackle.

Rather see Pats grab a couple of second tier players with the money....and maybe Lloyd or a top WR.

I agree.

I think FA will be deemed an immediate fail by the knee-jerkers here and throughout the Pats fandom... but by midpoint of the season, when the Patriots 2012 versions of the Andre Carter/Mark Anderson signings begin to produce far more bang for the buck than initially anticipated, they will change their tune in relative short order. :singing:
