Josh Miller cut!

I'm a newbie, just signed up because of becoming a Patriots fans, due to Danny Baugher's presence on the team. Like Birdman21 above, I also played high school ball with Danny. He was a gereat basketball player too (point gard) before devoting himself to football.

Our senior year he was a tema captain, played tailback, linebacker, kicker and punter, and we are a large school or mascot was The Pride, as in pride of lions and that's what Baugher was and is: a team player.

He still holds school records including a 96 yard TD the week our favorite coach Mark Lovett died on our practice field, Danny said that one was for him. Baugher was all whatever as RB and linebacker and place-kicker, and was as I recall recruited by local AZ State as a fullback, and by other teams as a saftey/olb (he even looked a bit like Adam Archuleta). His punting was rated as first team All USAToday and he went with punting as his path, and we thought he must have worked at it like Archuleta worked at defense because he was always out there practicing and in the gym.

I seen him do some big stuff at college too. Vs USC, Reggie Bush did not get one runback on the Wildcats/Baugher, and he pinned them deep a number of times. He can hit the big ball and get high hang time, and I saw him hit some folks that got runbacks going and he can open field tackle well. Baugher set records in college to, I remember reading about him breaking a PAC 10 single game records that had been from like a quarter century ago, versus Purdue.

He told us that being on the practice squad last year with the Patriots gave him a chance to work hard on some things and to learn some from Miller and his coach. I noticed they sent him over to europe and he made All-league there.

I'm happy to become a Patriots fan and cant wait to see what Danny Baugher can contribute to a great club. Hope there is a game in our hometown in February!

I have known Baugher since kindergarten and played football with him in HS. He was our starting middle linebacker and fullback (9.2 yards per carry). You guys are getting a football player who can punt, not just a guy who can kick. Had he not got hurt his senior year of college (running a bad snap for a 32 yard gain and then having his knee taken out by Haloi Ngata and he tore his ACL) he would have set the college record for average and net, but he didn't get enough punts. If he gets the job for you guys, he will never stop working to improve. I now have a team to root for in the AFC. GO PATS!

Nice info, thanks!

The thing about the REALITY of the modern NFL is that the good teams keep turning over positions where players are getting old, or nursing injuries, or are just not quite as effective as they once were......

To be a good team for more than one year at a time requires drafting lots of young players that can fulfill a role on the team, if only for 3-4 years or so, and replacing older guys as soon as they appear to be losing a step. Also, keeping your "real" talent, which arguably has been the bigger challenge for the Pat's FO.

Belichick has offered to keep some players like Ty Law or Adam who reached that age of potential decline, and in other cases Belichick has let them go out to pasture.

It is a vital function of the team to keep getting younger when it doesn't hurt performance much and Danny sounds like he has potential.

On paper anyway..... :D

Poor Josh is whining a little, on Felger's sympathetic shoulder, even though he got a roster bonus this spring. Wished he'd either got a real shot to compete all pre season or they cut him after the draft when he knows he could have beaten out some of the other guys who have jobs...

Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't. At least they gave him a nice 6 figure parting gift...

He's saying nice things about Belioli in parting though. Says Bill is honest and will always do what is best for the team, and that goes a long way. Doesn't say your his guy and then dump you. Says he had a good talk with BB and Scott, and didn't require a security escort out of the building! Also says he always believed players win games, then he came here and realized while players do have to play to win, coaches like Bill can win a team 3 games a year (they might otherwise apparently not have won is the intimation).

Says unless it's a real good situation (I assume where he sees a real opportunity to catch on), he might just go into straight into broadcasting instead. He's a pretty good guy with a glib sense of humor - so he should.

Felger just told a story from last season. Josh had offered to bring him the ST kicking unit (himself, Lonnie and the rookie) for an hour on his regularly scheduled Tuesday appearance. Felger says he must have teased this on air once or twice prior to the Tuesday show. That day the three were eating lunch together when BB approached and told them you guys aren't going anywhere today. LOL

I heard most of that...cut off because of bad reception in the car...but I recall how Felger wanted all 3 to come down and...it was also soon after that Josh became injured.

Honestly, I don't know why that Lady Cat doesn't just buy a dog. :eat2:

Why thank you Mr Box. That's actually a really good idea. I'm off to Battersea dogs' home (http://www.dogshome.org/).

On second thoughts, a dog won't pay its share of the bills and I'm fairly sure Julian won't pee on the floor if I leave him home alone all day ;).

There is another AFL player who wants to come to the NFL.

Anthony Rocca, big bloke, tough as nails and a huge leg

Here is one of Ben Grahams Kicks 85.4m (93.3945756492 yards) in the AFL

There are quite a few big legs in the AFL, Barry Hall is another and a Rugby player Chris Latham has a huge leg and very clutch.

That said who knows how they would go with an NFL ball and in the NFL setting.

I often wondered why more Rugby players don't try their luck in the NFL. They would get paid more and the technique is pretty similar for kicking and punting. Someone like Jonny Wilkinson would make a fantastic place kicker.

Yea johnny is a great kicker and he would love less contact considering the amount of injuries he has had.

There is a league kicker Hazem El Masri who is a great place kicker, he kicked 35 straight conversions which is brillant considering you kick them from everywhere on the field. I think he has made over 600 conversions in his career.

I am seeing why Miller was cut. Baugher can kick the poop out of that ball! That was a sweet 70 yard punt! Sauerbrun who?

The new CB addition from Chicago (Dante Wesley) looks like he could be a nice addition on special teams as well. Downing that 70 yarder on the Titans 9. For those who were able to watch the game, how did Mel Mitchell do (other than his encroachment penalty)?

Re: The Kickers

Baugher has cemented his claim of the Punting job with a 70 yard Punt. And he produced on his first opportunity on an evening where he averaged 49+ Yards per kick and only a 1 yards worth of return.

Gostkowski demonstrated anew that he has a little of the Adam Vinatieri in him when he produced a TD saving tackle. Early in AV career, he would do that once or twice a season, proving he was a real football player and not some dweeb soccer kicker who was "Going to keek a Toushdown". He looked like a rodeo champ wrestling a Steer as he tackled and dragged down the ball carrier.

The coverage was a whole lot better than last year, although the KO returner should never have broken through to force Casper the Friendly Ghost's, TD saving tackle.

Well, friendly if you're a Patriots fan. If you're, say, a Chargers fan, not so much. :D

Maybe not, but he will probably leave his dirty dishes in the sink. :D

The defence would like to submit, M'Lud, that Mr Cat washes up AT LEAST MONTHLY.

On a serious note, do you prefer Baugher or Malone? I watched the game last week and I just saw a couple of kicks go for touchbacks....
